what many people now describe as a shocking escalation did not begin today. The practices were tested for years in neighborhoods whose residents had less political power to make themselves heard.

In the protests currently going on, children are being subjected to policing practices that would be indefensible even against adults. A child is not an enemy combatant. A teenager is not a threat simply because they are present in a public space and dare to exercise their right to protest.

Something that people forget about France is that their police are incredibly violent, and use dangerous weapons against civilians regularly. These sorts of weapons are major French exports. This is why France has to protest hard, because the police will beat them to nothing if not.

People are always surprised to learn that packaging, processing, and transportation are almost always small contributors (<10%) of food-related GHG emissions. The TYPE of food we eat -- meat versus plants -- is a MUCH bigger factor.
Bar chart of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the lifecycle production of different foods. Beef and lamb are the highest emitting. Farm-level emissions and land use change emissions are the greatest contributors to lifecycle food emissions.
