Sometimes even if you don’t think you can do anything for a situation, just sitting there and comforting a person who is hurt and scared, helps. The other woman sat there with her on the floor, holding her hand and helping her to be calm. That was so good to see. Be a helper. So many ways to help.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

This is bureaucratic violence. ICE quietly stopped taking fingerprints from people in detention, so USCIS denied their applications by default. Nobody weighed the merits of a single case. People's applications were thrown out because the agency holding them would not take their fingerprints.

1. Call our Immigration Legal Support Hotline at 1-800-354-0365, or call 311 and say "Immigration Legal" for free, confidential help in your native language.

2. Fill out our intake form to get help from the Rapid Response Legal Collaborative: nyc.gov/RRLC

3. Make a plan. Make sure you have an emergency contact and that someone you trust has your A-number. Talk to a lawyer before making any decisions.

On Oct. 15, 2026, we’re asking you to drop, cover & hold on for the Great Washington ShakeOut, part of the country’s largest earthquake drill. The event also includes a tsunami siren test, tests TV & Radio and evacuation drills in some schools. More details: mil.wa.gov/news/worlds-...
At 10:15am on 10/15, more than 120 Washington tsunami sirens along the inner and outer coast will be tested using the real wailing sound of a tsunami warning, not the Westminster Chimes that are typically used during the monthly tests. PLEASE DO NOT CALL 911.

There WILL be a test of the Emergency Alert System on radio and television this year.

The Wireless Emergency Alert text system on cell phones will NOT be tested.

Those who have downloaded the free MyShake Earthquake Early Warning App on their phones will get a test. Sirens related to the Columbia Generating Station will be tested in the Tri-Cities areas and some local jurisdictions will test their reverse 911 and opt-in text alerts. NOAA Weather Radios will also sound an alarm.
