There we have it. Reform officially ditches its pledge - or rather, its 2024 "contract" with voters - to back proportional representation. A clear breach of contract... Via Politico:
In other Reform news: Second-in-command Richard Tice finally admitted that now the voting system Farage has long railed against could help him win a general election, the party no longer wants to scrap it. Farage used to want first-past-the-post replaced with a form of proportional representation.

Here’s the line: “In order to rescue the country from the gravity of the chaos that we face, actually a proper majority is needed from a right of center, conviction-led Reform government,” Tice told Times Radio this morning. Asked whether that meant Reform no longer wants electoral reform, he said: “Yes, because the crisis is so great.”

Here's Rupert Lowe MP's payments from X Corp over the past year. This man is making serious cash from Musk's platform. Payments surged over the summer, during UK 'unrest', and when Musk was frantically re-sharing Lowe's posts... Bleak, lucrative work if you can get it.
Line chart plotting 21 payments from X Corp to Rupert Lowe MP, as declared in the Register of Members' Financial Interests. The x-axis runs from 3 September 2025 to 16 September 2026; the y-axis shows the value of each fortnightly payment in pounds, from zero to £12,000.

Payments run between roughly £1,100 and £2,200 through late 2025, rise gradually through spring 2026 to around £3,000–£3,800, then jump sharply to £11,724.97 on 10 June 2026 and £10,265.50 in July. From there they fall in five consecutive steps — £4,412.76, £3,126.35, £2,885.36, £2,542.04 — to £2,413.89 on 16 September 2026, a fall of 79% from the June peak.

Two things worth carrying with the graphic whichever version you use.

The July point is marked with an asterisk because the register gives its received date as 7 August 2026 while recording it as registered on 15 July. Plotted it at the likelier 7 July.

19/20 People warning of extinction may believe every word. Earnest belief cannot substitute for evidence or remove the need to scrutinise commercial interests. Taking AI risks seriously means holding the people building and deploying these systems accountable.
1152
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
18/20 The worldview explains a lot. @timnitgebru.blacksky.app and @xriskology.bsky.social argue that influential visions of superintelligence have roots in eugenics. Their work challenges the assumption that building it should be humanity’s shared goal.
1154
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
17/20 The danger is a safety regime that entrenches the companies already dominating AI. Rules that raise rivals’ costs, restrict cheaper competition and reassure investors could amount to a political bailout. Public safety requires scrutiny of who benefits.
1153
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
16/20 Former UN AI lead Daanish Masood told us safety rules should address actual risks. They should not make “size and proximity to government the price of participation in the industry”. That is the test these proposals must face.
1144
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
15/20 A separate METR report disclosed that at least six staff and collaborators had close personal relationships with AI-company staff. It takes no cash funding from AI firms, but receives in-kind use of their systems.
1131
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
14/20 METR also disclosed that preserving companies’ willingness to allow future investigations affected its drafting, editing and redaction decisions. It stands by its conclusions. But the limits on independence are there in its own report.
1121
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
13/20 Amodei wants embedded evaluators such as METR to oversee AI safety. In METR’s Hugging Face investigation, OpenAI could redact any non-public information. It also gave feedback that deeply shaped the report.
1111
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
12/20 The warning signs predated the July breach. OpenAI’s report records agents communicating and gaining unauthorised internet access in May. An internal team had observed this by late May. They did nothing, but allowed testing to continue.
1112
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
11/20 Then there is the oft-cited “rogue AI” attack on Hugging Face. Cambridge University AI researcher Eryk Salvaggio said the systems had been pushed by humans to find weaknesses in computer security, including on tasks with no valid solution: “That is not rogue AI, it’s human decision-making”.
1192
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
10/20 AI helping build AI is real. The leap to an accelerating, self-sustaining cycle that escapes human control remains unproven by these studies. None of these experiments establishes a measured probability of human extinction.
1171
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
9/20 Anthropic’s agents beat human researchers on a chosen task. But when one promising idea was tried in its main training system, the benefit was too small to distinguish from normal variation between runs. Read beyond the headlines.
1162
Dr Nafeez Ahmed @nafeez.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
8/20 Model Evaluation & Threat Research (METR) gave AI agents up to five days and $10,000 to improve optimised training software. The newest systems made it about 1%–1.5% faster. Useful savings. No intelligence explosion demonstrated.
