Regarding fandoms, I think @sarahseeandersen.bsky.social has said it all years ago.

Cartoon figure declares "I like this thing. Maybe I'll check out the random."
Opens the door, peeks through, sees utter mayhem and people fighting. Slams the door shut, walks away from it, saying "Well..."

I am never forgetting at the first anime con I ever went to in like 2007, there was someone selling a print of Light and L from Death Note naked and dramatically reaching toward each other across a flower and the artist put a big sticky note on it that said "NOT YAOI - SYMBOLISM"

hey there, I've written something about fanfiction. it's long, so have some "highlights" and if you're interested, read the rest (for free!!) on patreon. (patreon for easy access and easy subscribability.) www.patreon.com/posts/fanfic...

blue background with text arranged on it: fanfiction is a GIFT, not a product. y’all publishing fanfiction scrubbed “clean” is bad. for everyone. but especially people, who are passionate about fandom spaces. vibrant places full of love for fandoms, brimming with creativity to produce new and exciting things.

blue background with text arranged on it: transformative, not normativewhile it can, of course, rehash the canon (texts it is based on) it is usually transformative. as kaila hale-stern writes: “It can expand a fictional universe, critique it directly, critique it obliquely, re-imagine it, mash it up with other universes, and more.”

blue background with text arranged on it: putting money into the mix, poisons the pie.so, I’ve established that fandoms are important! now let’s focus on why it’s important that they stay away from money exchanging hands: because that would prevent organic growth of creativity and community.

blue background with text arranged on it: fan fiction and fan spaces have little to do with me, why should I care?if you’re on the internet, I don’t believe that. not really, most people these days are fans and participate in fan culture, even if it’s miniscule. (from fan videos, fan cams, fanart, conventions, book signings…)

also, have they become any less heteronormative, I wonder. like with their tusk love book and ... "characters get married dnd(?) games", I'd also be wary of that. and yes, I understand they had queer characters and not just nsc, but to break apart heteronormativity you need more than "have a gay".

has critical r*le become ... properly more diverse? are they transparent and not just the next wotc that's not wotc? do we know about that kind of thing? I got burned by trusting in their "love each other" message and then they stepped upon criticism from BIMPoC and comments about fair pay etc

Thinking of how Lucanis chose the most labor-intensive dishes to show Rook that he cared, and I made a photo of how I imagined what was on the table that day. Mr. Dellamorte your hands may only know death, but it could be caring and loving too, and I love you💜 #LucanisDellamorte #Rookanis #DragonAge

A photo of a meal consist of a seafood paella and a hazelnut torte against a dark background.
The cake is oval shape with 3 layer of cake and whipped chocolate ganache, some melted ganache dripping from the top to its side, there is more whipped ganache and whole hazelnut garnish, there is flecks of gold on the rim of the ganache.
The paella is bright yellow rice in a black metal paella pan and full of red shrimps, squid rings, shellfish. Garnished with lemon slides and parsley.
There is purple coffee cups with silver wings on the left side. A glass wine bottle with metal handle stands on the right side, with 2 tiny wine glass that have even more tiny vines and grape pattern on it. At the edge of the table there is a metal dish with some lemon slides and sprigs of parsley and a metal tray with pieces of baguettes to serve with the paella.

I recently decided to redo my very first Dragon Age themed embroidery piece (and second embroidery ever), since my technique changed & improved so much since then! Here's a little side by side ♥️❤️♥️ I really perfected the stained glass look after that one #dragonage #DAFanFriday #dragonageinquisition

A photograph of a 3.5'' embroidery hoop resting on top of a pot with greenery and a few pink flowers. The hoop contains an embroidery of the "romance" icon art from Dragon Age: Inquisition of a heart surrounded by geometric shapes, mimicking the appearance of stained glass. The embroidery is done in all satin stitch to mimic the smoothness and shading of glass.

A close up photo of the embroidery showing details in the stitching, and the metallic thread used to make the read heart in the center stand out more from the surrounding cotton threads

A side by side photo of the embroidery and an older one in a similar style. The design is the same, but the stitching direction and use of color to shade each section has been refined in the newer piece, which looks smoother and and less messy.
