Just got the professionally printed version of Black Fairies and it’s gorgeous! I’m so happy with the way it turned out. This would be print on demand and ship within the US. What kind of digital downloads to include with this book? #mythictexture #blackfairy

Her hair is a mass of red, pink, dark blue, green, and yellow flowers and orange thistles that fill the cover. The first book in a series of capoeira picture books. It's a perfect intro for beginners. Learn your first 13 movements. From Ginga, Rolé, and Esquiva. To Armada, Martelo, and Quexiada. Also learn to identify three basic musical instruments and a song for your first Roda. youtu.be/SpJW9t7iJ_M?...

I am actively looking for a decent paying remote job (publishing or publishing adjacent would be 👌🏾) but in the meantime ⬇️

A drawing of a Black woman standing next to a movie poster featuring a pirate holding a noble woman close and brandishing a sword. The Black woman is wearing a red jacket, black and white shirt, and dark jeans. Her natural hair is tied up with a teal scarf. The text on the fake movie poster reads: Sarah A. Macklin is... And then the book has some of the songs that go with capoeira, like "a hora é essa" (the time is now) (6/?)

Two-page spread in a book. The left side has the title of the song, "a hora é essa" (the time is now), and the right side has the lyrics:
a hora é essa
a hora é essa
berimbau tocou na capoeira
berimbau toucou eu vou jogar
berimbau tocou na capoeira
berimbau tocou eu vo jogar

The time is now
The time is now
The berimbau [single-stringed instrument w/gourd resonator]played in capoeira
The berimbau played, I'm going to play
The beribau played in capoeira
The berimbau played, I'm going to play

The book also introduces you to the instruments that accompany capoeira. Here's the atabaque, a drum (5/?)

A two-page spread in a book. The left page has the word "atabaque" on it, and the right page has a picture of an atabaque drum, a tall drum that a person plays standing.

As promised in the title, the book starts with first steps, illustrated by this wonderful young practitioner (you may think you could handle doing meia lua de frente, but wait till you see meia lua de compasso) (2/?)

A two-page spread of a book. The left side says "meia lua de frente" (half moon from the front), and the right side illustrates this: a young practitioner dressed in white has hands raised and their right leg kicking up.

I really want to go to this. Not for any particular reason than to be surrounded by art and books. Somedays, it's really hard to keep up the enthusiasm when creativity is treated like a production line.

Art by Dianita @dianita.bsky.social · 17/11/2024

Almost 1k new people found my little cloud in this sky in less than a day. Thank you so much! I'm Dianita, fantasy artist from Mexico currently in TX. You'll find that I love Medusa and that I include animals in most of my art. I illustrated a tarot deck for Llewellyn too! (March 2025). 🥰

Painting of Medusa hiding in a pond surrounded by rocks. She's right in front of an unicorn looking directly at her. A scary forest int he background, and her chasers to the distance.

Painting of Medusa, with colorful snakes on her head that have a tornasol kind of effect. White dress and a ouroboros symbol on her chest.

Portrait of a Black woman or female representing person looking at us. Her hair is blue, curly. Dark red lips. Stars can be seen in her hair and a Voyager probe can be seen on our left.

White horse flying through yellow clouds. Moon and stars can be seen on the background. Galaxy type of wings and surrounded by monarch butterflies.

"As the artist and writer of Capoeira: First Steps. I realize that when I switched to focusing on my art & writing full-time, I left a lot of my fitness & health behind. Capoeira was not really a fitness thing however. It was an art that I enjoyed practicing." - @akemiart.bsky.social

Why did you decide to create a book about capoeira?

"I trained capoeira for a few years. I stopped for over a decade then came back to it. It's an amazing and challenging art. I was fun to combine my move of three art forms (art, writing, capoeira) into a book." - @akemiart
