My goals have changed over the past 3 years. I now want to create a book a year featuring Black folk. A novel, picture book, art book, animation, whatever. Relating to fantasy, wonder, and rest. And live a financially free life doing that.

My art. I don’t talk about it enough. But looking at it like this, I’ve enjoyed the ride. Hopefully, something here resonates with you.

Man. This is the first time I’ve been fooled by an automated voice. And the only reason I knew is because I had to call back and the tone of voice was exactly the same.

Suppose I should try to dig up some business grants. And licensing companies. Yes, I’m avoiding writing but I might actually get 5 other things done so is it really a bad thing?

I just watched a MacDonalds ad which I think was about finding a lost MacDonalds under the sea. It was a temple with the logo arches carved at the entrance. Greek columns and carved Greek gods eating burgers and everything. And I just…why?

For Swordtember today I wanted to do something that's not related to my Ha-Nahn world. I wanted to make a rendition of the sword Need from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books. Need is a powerful mage sword that was made under a magical oath to protect women and can only be wielded by women

A European style long sword with a goddess symbol of the full and two crescent moons on either side. The center has a blue jewel and the pommel has a blue metal fan structure on the back.

Man. I did a mini nano in August. Just writing tons of stuff that was just telling myself the story. That’s the rough draft and she looks exactly how I feel about it.

If you're wondering why authors are getting so rabid here: First Anthropic stole our books. Then we got denied compensation because of US unjust copyright law and publishers failing to meet their contractual obligations. Then publishers and agents apparently claimed author shares. Now this.

Yall have a week to sign up for my online Yearlooong in Speculative Fiction class and get you a $100 discount: hugohouse.org/product/year... And here is the pretty picture they gave me to share so you see how cool and surpassingly strange we can be together:

Along this graphic's bottom, towering purple buildings rise from mist to clouds. A laser-like orange beam crosses low between them and blue and red points of light float higher above. The text at the top reads "Yearlong in Speculative Fiction: Craft Fundamentals with Nisi Shawl/ONLINE/Intro; Intermediate/ 30 sessions/Thu. Sep 24 - Jun3/7:10 PM - 9:10 PM PT"

This book is like reading a dream. The language is clean and precise and there is nothing vauge or dreamlike about it. At the same time it describes an unimaginable dream world and state that lives beside reality. The Famished Road by Ben Okri.

Opinions wanted. If you were the only Black person in a dance class, exercise class, etc. And every song played was filled the N word - I don’t care if it’s a Black person singing it. Would you feel comfortable in that class? Or would you leave? Or would you…?

All these food scare shenanigans have me looking up if whatever I’m buying is 100% Made inside Canada. Surprisingly, a made in Canada sticker doesn’t actually mean that.
