A constant rotation of Black Lace, The Wurzels and The Barron Knights seems more appropriate 🤷‍♂️

Trusting the reader to be smarter than you is a core principle of all good world building. Building space into the world for ambiguity and mystery is essential for good writing. I honestly don’t think abandoning these principles can produce anything with wonder about it.

Born on this day: Hugh Grant, the charming British actor whose sharp wit and romantic‑comedy brilliance made him a global star. Rising from stage roots to iconic film roles, he built a career on charisma, timing, and an unmistakably self‑deprecating style.
Ed Asner as Lou Grant, the gruff yet principled newsroom editor from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, leans over a desk piled with open newspapers in a cluttered office, sleeves rolled up, striped tie loosened, exuding weary authority amid filing cabinets and a typewriter. Look, if you don’t get this one it’s totally cool. This is for my old school TV kids who grew up watching anything that was on even if they didn’t really understand it. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

£10 for two huge fillets from Lough Neagh Fishermen's Co-op up in Toome, got four big portions from it. Baked two, fried two, same seasonings. Can't think I've had better fish.

Reckon much of it springs from 70s London-centric TV like The Sweeney and The Professionals, filled with faux-cockneys and cold war securocracy dreams in abandoned buildings, where the only tractors were plot devices during car chases.

Treating any communication platform that algorithmically selects which content to put in front of a user as a publisher, and legally responsible for that content, is the screamingly obvious solution that will deeply upset maybe seven companies and make life considerably better.

Related: in eastpondia, a sleeveless jumper is called a tank-top, while a pullover is just a jumper 'cos that's how you get into them. Other glorious naming conflicts: sweater-vests vs tanks, sleeveless Ts vs muscle shirts, tank-tops Vs vests.

As a science fiction writer I really fucking resent tech bros for ruining the phrase "artificial intelligence." 80 years of it being all about cool androids and interesting computers destroyed by five years of "Spicy autocorrect making everything shittier for money." NEVER FORGIVE.

Creatives don't owe you shit. They fundamentally do not owe you shit. They made something. You saw it. There was never any responsibility involved. They don't owe you a "better version" of the work. They don't owe you "less problematic writing". They don't owe you more episodes. You deserve nothing.

Given the first recorded trainspotter in 1861 was a girl called Fanny Johnson, we shouldn't be surprised many sprectral trainspotters reported at stations and alongside tracks, are female. Mislabelling as something other than trainspotters due to gender is a crime against ghosts. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

First ride out with the bone conducting earphones. (Side issue: battery only lasts about 2½ hours) I'm not convinced yet. Stereo sounds making me look over my shoulder, faster metal sounding like a tinny radio on really quietly in the next room, wind noise kinda overwhelming like any earphones.

I've known who originally released this for a very long time but somehow I've still only ever heard the Status Quo version. I don't know what's stopping me from finding & listening to it. Also: it's nice to see the correct opinion about Hergest Ridge said out loud for once.

Stages of Decomposition

This artwork, titled "Stages of Decomposition," is a hand-embroidered piece by an artist known as Lacey (who uses the handle @calicoranger or @laceypembroidery).

The piece illustrates the five standard biological stages of human decay as described in forensic science: Fresh, Bloat, Active Decay, Advanced Decay, and Dry Remains.

Political parties in power are happy to write off losses at a council level as "protest votes" because though councils do the actual work of managing communities, only the GE and staying in power at that level matters to them. And they know people will vote for them then Democracy is a broken system

There's a particular flavour of disappointment from finding a long thread by someone who's writing you really enjoy only to find it's about some very specific things in a very specific field that you know nothing about. Truly one of those 'evesdropping on strangers' moments of parasocial failure.

However solitary the witch, it does well to remember we don't inhabit the landscape alone. Often you'll discover that some territory is shared, if not already claimed. In Hookland, sharp eyes will find which woods are walked by Fox Brides. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchSky

The choral section of Neubauten's Halber Mensch, maybe 1989 or 1990. Because it also sounded like the apocalypse. Sadly I've never found any more of their work in a similar style, after slowly tracking down their entire discog.
