Hot take: I spoke with a big important person at a big important company. I messaged this person on LinkedIn. Got an answer within 15 minutes where they could not spell my name right. I kept trying to tell myself it would be ok. Nah. Kept getting worse. So that's my new red flag.

Agentic ecommerce news (it's a thread): WebMCP 1/ Every website is about to become its own AI integration. ChatGPT can now check your order status or stock directly, using code you already have. No server, no vendor contract. That's the whole barrier now: a small dev task.
Site tools
Use WebMCP to give AI agents a direct way to work with your website

Site tools are ChatGPT’s implementation of the proposed WebMCP standard. With WebMCP, a website can offer useful actions directly to an AI agent alongside the interface people already use. You and the agent can work with the same live page and signed-in session.

In the built-in browser in the ChatGPT desktop app, ChatGPT Work and Codex can discover and use these tools when they are available.

Use GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-5.6 Terra for site tools. GPT-5.6 Luna currently has WebMCP disabled. Update the ChatGPT desktop app to the latest version. Site tools aren’t available in Enterprise or Edu workspaces. Availability also depends on rollout and the tools provided by the current page.

WebMCP vs. MCP

Model Context Protocol (MCP) connects an AI application to a local or remote server. Its tools can work independently of an open webpage, such as searching a service or managing records through an API.

WebMCP lets a website make its capabilities available to an agent as a set of predefined tools. The agent can discover them when it visits, so people don’t need to install a separate MCP server or set up another connection to use those capabilities.

Claude's text watermark means changing which words get picked at "low stakes" moments. IMO word choice is NOT "low stakes". Synonyms carry their own mood, history, voice. A statistical model can't account for all of that considering it treats words as interchangeable. Language is not fungible.

Hacking is getting polite. In June, attackers opened a chat with Meta's AI Support Assistant, asked it to add a new email to the victim's account, got a verification code sent to their own inbox, then walked away with a password reset button. I wrote an SEL article on what it means for marketers.

Training crawlers versus retrieval agents. One ingests your content for free to train models, and the other indexes your page in real time to answer user questions. You're subsidizing model training with infrastructure costs that produce no return.

Machines optimize. People differentiate. Same structure, same order, same concepts as the top result means you are a variant of a thing, not the main show. As quoted in SEO Confidential. Full piece linked in comments.
The Von Restorff effect tells us that people notice what stands out. You can’t differentiate yourself by doing exactly what everyone else is doing, only 2% better. If your goal is to optimize something to the extreme, rely on machines. If you want to create something new, effective, and truly distinctive, rely on people.

When you type a query like "healthiest snack for someone in their mid-40s with ADHD.", LLMs break this down to make judgment calls and inferences, such as interpreting "mid-40s" to mean "adult" and inferring that "ADHD" means the user "needs to focus". The fan-out feels like typecasting for products

Do you have good taste? I'm sure you do. Pierre Bourdieu spent his career arguing that taste isn't aesthetic, it's tribal. What you call "good" is a membership card. Then we built a machine that read every taste tribe at once...reflecting our tastes. Taste IS social signaling.

The 2010s retail crisis had a name: Showrooming. Customers used physical stores to inspect products, then bought cheaper online. The store absorbed the cost of the experience. Amazon collected the conversion. The 2026 version is playing out on your website with generative search.

For 30 years, brand equity lived in aesthetics: the color palette, the story, the emotional register. A brand whose value is entirely in the vibe has no calculable residue. So what next? With AI agents, we need to rethink what brand means. Check out my SERanking article in the comments.

The traditional SEO value exchange is dead. Old deal: Allow crawls ➡️ get traffic. AI reality: 80% of AI crawlers generate zero clicks. AI referral CTR is an abysmal 0.27% (TollBit). You're paying server costs to subsidize LLM training for zero return. What's your brand worth inside an AI answer?
"Graphic stating: 'A large portion of traffic doesn't even hit static pages. It hits endpoints like:'. Stop treating AI bots equally. 🤖 Training crawlers: Ingest for free (infra cost, 0 return). 🔍 Retrieval agents: Index real-time (drives citations). Restrict training bots on heavy paths, keep retrieval open, and edge-block unverified scrapers. Bot personas dictate AI visibility.

AhrefsBot made 390,000 requests to a single site's add-to-cart URLs in 24 hours. This made me go "wut?". I got an early preview of Kinsta's bot traffic study, and it was an uncomfortable read (highly recommend it if you are a technical SEO).
A horizontal bar chart titled '7.67 million requests hit add-to-cart URLs in 24 hours.' The chart shows bot traffic proportions: Claudebot at 48.9% (3.75M), Blexbot at 24% (1.84M), GPTBot at 12.8% (0.98M), Googlebot at 9.3% (0.71M), and Ahrefsbot at 5.1% (0.39M). Subtext explains that even Google's unblockable crawler was caught in this 'add-to-cart trap.' A footer note highlights that Claudebot's volume equates to one request every 23 milliseconds, none of which are cacheable.
