Do you have nature records in notebooks that you never look at and wonder what to do with? I've transcribed 10,000 records from the 1960-70s from a Welsh ornithological legend into @birdtrack.bsky.social and @cofnod.org.uk. And it was fascinating... #BirdingWales www.cofnod.org.uk/news/natural...

Fed up with people shirking responsibility by arguing that the UK causes just 1% of emissions? Here are two fantastic analogies from a primary school teacher, Mark in Coventry, who called Sheila Fogerty on @lbc.co.uk - one involving dog poo 😆 Other arguments here: www.nebriefing.org/mp-dialogue

We want to give a huge thank you to all the Species Champion MSs who have worked with us over the last 5 years. Check out some highlights here: waleslink.org/wp-content/u... We also had to give a special shout out to Mark Isherwood, @carolynthomasclwyd.bsky.social & @juliemorganlab.bsky.social 🪺🌼🍄
This is a screen capture of the first page of the ‘thank you’ newsletter – the copy is in a column on the left (text below) and the right is three photos of species which were part of the project. The top is a common toad, half submerged in a pond, peering into the distance with half closed eyes. The second is a hedgehog, looking into what seems like a puddle, as though about to take a drink. And the last one is a harbour porpoise, a grey marine mammal with a white belly, tail in the water and head smiling out of the surface.

Text is as follows:
Diolch yn fawr to all our Species Champions of the Sixth Senedd
From 2021 to 2026, we recruited 43 Senedd Members to advocate on behalf of an at-risk species that can be found in their constituency.

We were overwhelmed by MSs’ enthusiasm for taking up the cause for nature and speaking for species that cannot speak for themselves. We couldn’t keep up with as regular visits and briefings as we would’ve liked to, and were especially impressed with Champions who went above and beyond and acted on their own volition to find out more and work with organisations on the cause. With the help of our excellent Champions’ scrutiny, the Sixth Senedd term saw some landmark developments to restore nature, including:
• The Environment (Principles, Governance and Biodiversity Targets) Bill 2026, which sets the process for creating nature targets for Wales, in line with our international commitments.
• The Biodiversity Deep Dive and the subsequent establishment of Naturfa sites by the Welsh Government helped set the pathway to protecting 30% of our land, rivers and sea by 2030.
• The Agriculture Act 2023 established the framework for the Sustainable Farming Scheme, which formally started in January 2026, to help farmers transition to more sustainable farming methods to tackle carbon, nature loss and create more climate-resilient practices for all farm business.

This is a screen capture of the second page, featuring Mark Isherwood, outgoing Senedd Member for North Wales. There are multiple images of him at events, on site visits, and social media posts, highlighting actions to restore curlew across Wales.

The text is as follows:
Champion of the Term!
All our champions have done brilliant work, but we have to give a special shout out to Mark Isherwood, who has never missed an opportunity to raise the plight of the curlew, whose numbers have dropped by 80% since 1990. Sponsored by RSPB Cymru, he’s repeatedly marked World Curlew Day in Plenary; worked with the Gylfinir Cymru / Curlew Wales partnership on their restoration; sponsored the launch of the Wales Curlew Recovery Plan; met with fellow Curlew Champions from Scotland and England at a Curlew Summit at 10 Downing Street; looked into local planning applications with concerns on the potential impact on curlew, and met with WEL members every time he could when we came to the Senedd. Thank you Mark!

We’re here to support the excellent @nffn.bsky.social Wales with their Weatherproof Farming asks. @llyrgruffydd.bsky.social is sponsoring the event, which highlights the needs of farmers in adapting to more unpredictable weather patterns - flooding, dry summers & unpredictable winters.
Llyr Gruffydd standing underneath a presentation saying ‘the weatherproof farm’ A farming advisor showing slides of dry and unhealthy soils, not absorbing water during high rain events and sitting on the surface instead. Cows on a leaflet. Two brown and one white cow look straight to camera in a grassy field, with beautiful hillsides the background. Title is: Food from living fields - a roadmap for nature friendly farming in wales. Leaflet page:

Our key asks:
1 - Ensure a sufficient and ring-fenced
budget: Deliver ambitious farm system change

2 - Prioritise ambitious land management schemes: Make nature-friendly actions the easy choice

3 - Implement robust, clear and fair regulation: Protect the environment and deter poor practice

4 - Strengthen knowledge exchange and advisory support: Enable a widespread farming transition

5 - adopt an ambitious approach to food policy: Remove key barriers to a fairer, healthier, and truly nature-friendly food system
