If the MAGA party didn't really want to shut down the government, the 53 MAGA Senators could change the Senate rules, pass what they want and the government stays "open". Either the MAGA Senators want to keep the 60 vote rule or they want to do political posturing. Maybe both.

Personal news: 1. My doctors have cleared me to go back to work WITHOUT restrictions! Yay! 2. I filed taxes today. Had to pay another $6k to Uncle Sam. Ouchie for me but that's the cost for living in a civilised society. Though whether the US is civilised enough is up for debate.

I think it's time that the United States had a Shadow Government, not unlike the UK. Though I wouldn't advocate for a shadow President, rather a Leader of the Opposition and a Shadow Secretary of XXX. They act as opposition spokespeople to react quickly to 47's "shit" for want of a better word.
