What a lie. Some of these people are being imprisoned indefinitely in squalid condition in African prisons. Others report being beaten and arbitrarily deported in violation of international law back to their home countries, where they face persecution or torture.

The indefinite nature of their confinement has taken a severe toll. In October 2025, a Cuban man who was on the July flight went on a hunger strike for a month-until he started showing signs of organ failure —to protest the conditions of his detention, including his ongoing confinement and lack of access to legal counsel.
Terrified of being imprisoned in Eswatini forever, another man repeatedly told his attorney that the prison there never lets people go. One man told his attorney that he feels like a caged animal with no end in sight. The prison does not have air conditioning, making the hot, humid summer months especially uncomfortable for the men.
Food is insufficient, medication is scarce, and requests often go unmet or are belatedly met.

Today's first local urgent need is Julie, who does a ton of community work in her neighborhood for families and kids. She's undergoing major dental surgery, and insurance won't pay the last $1,500. They won't do that work until it's paid, which means she can't really even eat right now.

A lot of republican run states have “Open For Business” low regulations and tax incentives for businesses. So corporations move in and workers follow. And that is going to include people who aren’t white republicans. When a critical mass is reached, the newer residents start affecting local politics

I would not be surprised if a similar thing is happening in SC and in TX. People move because they want cheaper housing and lower state income taxes. What they don’t like is the bare-bones civic and educational infrastructure and services.

Same thing happens with right wing nutters on school boards. Then people from areas with well funded schools wonder why boys football is the only extracurricular activity. Can’t tell you the number of parents who were upset there wasn’t a dance team or even dance as an elective.
