Now public: "Local Watermelon" The Hebrew says: "Not by might and not by power, but by my spirit says the Lord of Hosts — there shall be peaceful counsel between them both." (Zechariah 4:6/6:13) www.patreon.com/emilyk/posts...
A poster with an offset printer's feel to it. It has blocky areas of color and the text is block-style. At the top in dark brown is "לא בחיל ולא ברח (not by might and not by power)". A whole deep green watermelon sits in the center, and a red watermelon slice below it. A red arrow points to the whole watermelon that says "כי אם ברוחי (but by My Spirit)". It points to a label on the melon that says "אמר ה׳ צבאית עצת שלום תהיה בין שניהם (says the Lord of Hosts — there shall be a counsel of peace between them both.)" There are two olive branches between the lines of text. At the bottom are several red stripes stretching across. The bottom most stripe has the English translation of the Hebrew, with "Zechariah 4:6 / 6:13" at the end. A red outline of a shield cuts into the lines. It has a pomegranate with "בסד" inside of it, and בהרמ׳׳ק at the top.

Sneak peak at the new zine coming down the pike
a black and white comic illustration of 3 old male philosophers from Europe. They each have a portrait in an oval with their names below it.

Voltaire: "The Jews are an Arab horde."
Kant: "Jews are Palestinians living among us."
Proudhon: "The Jew must be sent back to Asia — or be exterminated."

4. She stops and sees a man in a flannel shirt in a trucker cap standing on his stoop with a bottle of beer.
5. He says with a dark look on his face: "'Just throw the old Jack-O-Lanterns on the compost pile,' she aid. 'They'll rot away in no time,' she said."
6. Man: "This is my life now." The woman backs away slowly.

New Comic: Based on the infamous scene from the movie School Ties, this is a common experience when we try to get people - Jewish and non-Jewish - to address antisemitism. Patrons saw this comic first. Please consider supporting me there. www.patreon.com/emilyk
A prep school boy sits on a bed in his room, looking back and forth between a woman on his left and a man on his right. Above his bed on the wall is a banner with a swastika on it and the phrase "Go Home JEW" under it. This is a scene from the movie "School Ties."

The woman on the left says, "didn't you go on a "Birthright Israel" trip last year? They're probably expressing their opposition to Zionist settler colonialism." The man on the right says, "I don't see any antisemitism. They didn't write a word against Israel."

Since this person disabled replies etc I’m not gonna share their identity but I think what they wrote is spot on. I would t be shocked to find out Cleves’s Tech VP husband said “comics make bank at the movies, where’s YOUR piece?” Without knowing those same creators die penniless.
literally talked to my husband about it
as "in the year between cleves giving
her blessing and putting up the
callout, a nephew at christmas or
 something brought up that spiderman
is based on comics" it appears that
the nephew was actually the husband

Black and white 2 panel comic called "Retro music."

1. Two people in a car. First person says "THIS song again?? They're playing thee exact same set from earlier! Are there no good radio stations left?!" Woman driving says: "There isn't even a D.J. It's literally just someone's iPod on "shuffle.""

2. An anthropomorphic iPod in the DJ booth. It says, "OK, CATS AND KITTENS! That was Its_Been-a_while_-_staind.mp3 from Limewire! Next up is BadBoys-BobMarley-128kb.mp3, and later on, my-baby-lil-romeo-hq.exe from Kazaa Lite. I don't think it's a music file, but let's give it a whirl!"

My turn to enter the world of Jimothy fan art. These two illustrations are based on two versions of the beloved logo of Japanese company Yamato Transport. I wanted to pay homage to Jimothy's mom, who didn't abandon him just because he needed a little more patience to raise.
A parody of the old Kuroneko logo for Yamato Transport. It is horizontal black oval with a thick grey border. A mother raccoon carrying a baby raccoon in its mouth is inside the oval, and its tail and ear clip the oval's border. It is a simple flat shape, all grey, except for the tail stripes and mask on each raccoon. The shapes of the heads are outlined so that there is a "cut out" look to it. Below it in Japanese is "Jimothy Transport."A parody of the newer Kuroneko logo for Yamato Transport. It is horizontal, slightly squarish black oval. I eventually remedied this. Also my laundry doesn't use coins anymore. Also also somehow the penny is discontinued. But anyway. The rest is still true. -- Follow me on Patreon to see all my comics first! patreon.com/emilyk
A black and white comic. Panel 1: A clear piggy bank with change in it on a desk. "When it comes to saving loose change, I have a very specific system. Each type of coin has its own place."

Panel 2: "Dimes & Nickels go in a small piggy bank, quarters go in a dish (my apartment still uses coin-op laundry, unfortunately), and pennies (ugh) go into some jar I keep lying around." Images of these things are in this panel. The nickel says "this should be the lowest coin, 5¢", the dime says "these definitely add up, worth saving 'em, 10¢" and the penny says "Garbage coin, pretty much useless, 1¢."

Panel 3: "I think it's the one thing in my life that involves organizing that I've managed to consistently keep up. (I collect the pennies to try to prove to myself that even THOSE will eventually add up, even though it's barely worth the effort...)"

Panel 4: Me looking over at my piggy bank. "One day, I noticed something odd about the piggy bank..."
Panel 5: "A penny had infiltrated it! How?! I realized it must have been placed there by a friend who was generously helping me clean, and I can't get mad at them... They were helping me out..." Closeup of the piggy bank. There is a single penny in it.
Panel 6: Me glaring over at the piggy bank. "I can't just pluck it out, I'd have to dump out the whole pig..."
Panels 7 and 8: Closeups of my glaring eyes, and then the piggy bank's vacant plastic eyes.
Panel 9: Me with a resigned look next to the piggy bank.
Panel 10: Me walking away, dejected, saying: "I'll sort 'em out eventually." The piggy bank thinks: "yeah, and I'm gonna learn to fly."

Oh, good point, one video is definitely enough to discredit an entire website that has things like this in it. You may continue insisting the cartoonist is a straight hack who stole a the life story of two women from an academic who does not in fact own their life rights.
P. 77 - Anna Kingman’s Final Hours

How Anna’s death plays out on this page is imagined, but the pain of her loss is real. Rachel Hope Cleves notes in chapter 15 of Charity and Sylvia that Anna Kingman died of tuberculosis. This disease was also known as consumption. John Green has a wonderful book about the subject called Everything is Tuberculosis.

New Illustration: "Rose & Maud" Rose Schneiderman and Maud O'Farrell Swartz were prominent labor organizers and feminists in the early 20th century. Rose was Jewish and Maud was Irish, and between them could speak at least 6 languages - making them effective at organizing immigrant communities.
A portrait of two women from the neck up, on a warm cream background. Yellow wheat stalks entwined with a red ribbon form an oval frame. On the ribbon are the words, "The worker must have bread but she must have roses too." At the center top of the frame is the National Women's Trade Union League seal in purple. At the bottom of the frame are five large rose blossoms, forming a base. The red ribbon curls below them with the names "Rose Schneiderman" and "Maud O'Farrell Swartz." Rose is at the left and Maud is at the right, looking calmly toward the viewer. On their shoulders and between them are violet blossoms. They are purple with different tones shading them, and the violets are cream and violet, the same color used for the women. Behind them in the oval is the same phrase from the ribbon, but translated into Yiddish, German, French, Italian, and Irish in a light yellow-green.

A version of this print was sold as part of a benefit for the @ncjw.bsky.social, featuring their logo.
A dark brown illustration on a cream-colored background. 3 women are here: Shifra and Puah, the Hebrew midwives who fooled the Pharaoh in Exodus, and Miriam the Prophet (Moses’ sister), who is often associated with the 2 midwives, and who is considered a metaphorical midwife to the nation of Israel’s “birth.” In fact, the crossing of the sea is a giant birth metaphor, with Miriam at the end acting as a guide and a midwife – including providing the Israelites with water in the wilderness. The two women wear long garments and head coverings. The woman on the left looks behind, and the one on the right looks forward. They are large and overlook the sea, which is split into two walls with a path in the center. Miriam holds up her timbrel at the point where the sides of the sea converge with the pathway.

At the very bottom, the NCJW's logo is at the center, with a floral motif of common rue extended symmetrically from either side of it.

Did you know - the Portland Frog is not my first Passover-themed illustration? I made "The Midwives of Israel" after SCOTUS overturned Roe. Miriam, Shifra, and Puah guide the way through the split sea, buttressed by Jewish texts that support and indeed prescribe abortion. More info in the alt.

At the start of the split, a column of fire comes down in the form of “tzedek tzedek tirdof” with the verses that tell of the midwives resisting the Pharaoh when he told them to kill the male Hebrew babies.

The text consists of verses that talk about Judaism’s relationship to abortion. Even the most stringent Jewish opinions allow for abortion of the fetus to save the life of the mother, because her life takes precedent.

On the border is a floral ornamentation that is by no means random. This is Common Rue, which is not only a known abortifacient herb, but also has history as a protective amulet in Kaballah. This second meaning is a coincidence. I was looking for an abortifacient herb to use as the ornament, and common rue has not only been studied and shown to have those properties, but was visually really interesting and easily adapted to a border. That it has a presence in Jewish folklore is a big bonus. The bottom right corner, close up. Leaves from the common rue floral border flank "Miriam" in Hebrew. Verses from Rashi, Proverbs, and others are close up. My signature is stylized as a common rue blossom. The center of the illustration showing a closeup of Miriam's hand with the timbrel. Hebrew and English calligraphy is flowing forth.Closeup of the hand of one of the women. The flowers of the border can be seen in close up as well.

People need to better understand the relationship between diaspora Jews and Israeli Jews. It's not a simple binary.
A simple map of Israel made up of solid dots representing Israeli Jews, with white dots around it representing Jews outside of Israel. Caption is, "When Gentiles (and, many Jews) envision the world's Jewry, it's usually like THIS."Header: "But in reality, it's more like THIS."

That same map of blue dots making the shape of the State of Israel, but this time dots of varying blue tints surround it. There are arrows that point to other dots, making their way into Israel, showing relationships, such as: Attended Bar Mitzvah > Friend > Cousin, and Lawyer > Second Cousin > Making Aliyah. The blue gets darker the closer you get to Israel.Whether we support Israel's actions or NOT, the diaspora's connection to it is much more complex and much closer than it appears at first glance. Naturally, our feelings about Israel reflect this complexity.

Two men in a panel. One says, "The IDF is full of WAR CRIMINALS. They've murdered thousands of innocent Palestinian citizens!" The other looks on glumly and says "Hmm." He thinks, "I wonder if cousin Avi got shipped out to Gaza yet."So when someone says, "I don't blame Jews for Israel's actions, not all JEWS are ISRAELI!" They're setting up a false dichotomy of "Blamess Jews" vs. "Guilty Jews" - and ignoring the complex ways we are connected to the only majority-Jewish nation on earth.

Half of the world's roughly 16 million Jews live there. We're a tiny community.

Need a last-minute card? Here, print this out, it counts, probably.
A cut-out graphic for a card, with a border indicating where to cut. The front is a bunch of violets and a poem: "Roses are red, violets are blue, actually they are purple, like a violet, purple." On the back side, it's me shrugging with "Here's a card. See, they didn't forget." below it. Art by Emily K, Poem by Jake.

A vinyl sticker next to a quarter for scale. A shadowy figure - an ICE agent - lurks menacingly at someone off screen, as a hand holding a phone points to him, filming him. Above and behind him is a Nazi soldier in grey, being held at the point of a bayonet. It says in red text, "We Beat 'Em Once.. We'll Beat 'Em Again!"

New illustrations featuring Sailor Soldiers vs. ICE agents. Should they be stickers? (Would people even buy them? I can never tell...) They were on my Patreon first! www.patreon.com/posts/149895...
Sailor Moon leaps forward to punch an ICE agent in the stomach, who doubles over and drops his tear gas canister. It's a circular image - around the circle it says "In the name of the moon, I'll crush ICE!" The image is black, on a light yellow background. Part of the background is a different shade to create a crescent shape.Sailor Mercury angrily throws icy water at an ICE agent, who falls backwards. It's black on a light blue background. It says, "ICE out for good!" Sailor Mars stands defiantly beside an ICE agent. She is pointing her finger at him as flames shoot out and engulf him, making him fall backwards. It says "In the name of Mars, I'll melt ice!" The background is a bright reddish-magenta and the image is all black.

Drew this in 2018 when the birds were at the bowl and we won our first title. It felt like we not only beat the Patriots, but the Trump Administration itself, whom we promptly snubbed. #SuperbOwl #Philly #Birds
A black and white ink drawing of a German shepherd in a treehouse, with the Roman numeral LII and the year 2018 carved on it. Below it sits a great horned owl, and under the owl are two bald eagles. The caption says "Under dog, eagles at the superb owl."

In 1943, the Saturday Evening Post published series of works called "The Unconquerables." They consist of odes dedicated to various peoples who suffered under Nazi occupation. This illustration is an homage to that. I'm not a poet, this I know-it - but an attempt was made! 1/n
The image is divided in two half, top and bottom. The top half is a painting of a scene in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The snowy cityscape is in the background, and the flags of the city and state are in the top left corner. A crowd in winter gear gathers at the center, holding phones and recording an ICE agent as he slips and lands flat on his back. A photo-journalist captures the moment. On the right in the foreground is a middle-aged woman blowing a whistle. On the left in the foreground is a brick wall with portraits of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The bottom half has a poem entitled "An Open Letter to the Unconquerable Minnesotans."

A mockup of a sticker featuring my illustration "We beat em before.. we'll beat 'em again!" which shows a Nazi soldier faded at the top, hands raised at the point of a bayonet. Below in darker colors is an ICE agent with his hands up as an observer sticks their phone in his face.

In light of this morning's events, I'm releasing this one a little earlier to the public (it had been behind my Patreon paywall). Several "This is the enemy" posters were produced, and this is based on the winner of the National War Poster Competition held during WW2.
A close-up portrait of an ICE agent, with his face completely covered by a hood, a mask, and dark reflective glasses. He also wears a yellow "ICE" badge. In the reflection of his glasses is a sillhouette of an agent shooting into a car's driver side window. At the bottom it says "This is the enemy."

Upcoming.
A closeup shot of a digital painting in progress. It’s a woman- a bit older than middle age- blowing a whistle. She has long hair, a yellow knit cap and blue coat, and a determined look on her face.

New illustration: "Chip Away At Them." Inspired by a poster imploring people to sign up for military duty and "Stamp out the axis." Small acts do matter. Someone can't do everything, but everyone can do something. My patrons already saw this drawing! www.patreon.com/emilyk
A stylized light and dark blue hand grasps a red ice pick that is stabbing down into a block of solid ice, which is also blue. There's small cracks forming. Below it says in red, "Chip away at them." Below that in light blue it says, "Small acts add up - protect your neighbors."
