"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…” One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

Unlike the Super Bowl, elections have real civic consequences for citizens. Time will tell what last night’s results will mean for Quebecers in both the short and long term. I was surprised to see the participation rate remain low (66.89%) given how high-stakes this election was.

Toula Drimonis @mtltoula.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
That being said, last night was a big win for a party that in 2022 only won 3 seats & lost official party status. Big gains as well for the PLQ & PCQ. They both expanded their base. Even QS didn’t really lose, considering the very noticeable shift to the right Quebec has taken.

I appreciated PSPP speaking a few words of English, promising to work for all Quebecers, and reiterating his commitment to fight homelessness. He has a lot to prove and not a lot of time to prove it in. The last PQ minority government only lasted 18 months.

Toula Drimonis @mtltoula.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The PQ formed government, although with only 59 seats (and a very low 28% of the popular vote — the lowest-ever share of the popular vote for a winning party in Quebec’s history) it will be on a tight leash and will have to work together with other parties to get things done.

Elections are the Super Bowl for political junkies. Like 2022, I was working with Global News as a political analyst, assigned to PQ headquarters last night. Quebecers wanted the CAQ out and they made that clear when they gave them ZERO seats. #Quebec2026
