#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Cottbus, Germany, 1946 These semi-postals (stamps with a bit added to support a cause) were issued in 1946 to help fund the rebuilding of Cottbus, a German city near the Polish border. It is a cultural centre for the Sorbs, a Slavic people indigenous to the area.

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately My Duran Duran stamps arrived today, nice timing! I've gone with the Rio one because even after all these years it is one of my favourite albums, not a bad track on it and several outstanding ones. #BrummiePride
The artwork for the album Rio by the band Duran Duran. It features a stylised drawing of a beautiful dark haired woman in long pointy earrings wearing an off the shoulder dress with a large cerise frill8 stamps with Duran Duran album covers and a mini sheet with 4 stamps with their tour posters on

#stampoftheweek #philately GB 2025 Last weekend I was at the Strange Days in Wiltshire listening to talks about oddities and myths. I remembered that I'd bought this British folklore set (even though I don't tend to collect modern stamps) as it goes nicely with my subscription to Fortean Times.

Funny how newspapers devote endless column inches castigating the young, ill, disabled or asylum seekers for supposedly not wanting to work but they never question how fash can always find the time to go "protest" or go nonce around with flags

I bought myself a new t-shirt, it's my whole vibe now (From Ollie's Art Club if you're wanting more cheerful nihilism)
A blue haired woman wearing a black t-shirt with a white print of a cheery worm in a hat with the text "every single day there is something to do... and I am sick of it"

Today I've done some lino printing. So very far away from the quality of the Paddington as Death woodcut I bought for the house I'll post pictures of the prints after they've been handed out at the vibrator decorating contest on Saturday

I bought us something nice but also silly for our anniversary - it's beautiful in the flesh (as it were) Hopefully it will inspire me tomorrow when I'm doing the lino prints for the vibe contest :)

I'm on a train to Birmingham. As is traditional I have a Boots' meal deal. As is also traditional I have finished it well before lunchtime. It's important to observe traditions.

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately This week's stamp isn't actually a stamp it's a Cinderella, a way to donate to a cause and has no postal value. There are a few other Ceuta stamps but I didn't have any in my bag of Spanish so you get this one. Shame as I like the ones with crests on :) Anyhoo...

#StampOfTheDay #Philately Greece 1983 I went to see the Odyssey on Tuesday. It was a proper assault on the senses and the peril felt very perilous. Great stuff. This stamp is from a series of Homer represented in ancient art and pictures the escape from Polyphemus on a vase from the 6th century B.C
A Greek postage stamp with a picture of an attic black-figured vase from the 6th century B.C featuring a man tied under a sheep as he escapes the cave of a Cyclops

Someone posted an article about Leopold I of Belgium and it lead me into thinking about how different the world might be if Charlotte of Wales, his first wife, hadn't died in childbirth. She was 2nd in line to the British throne after her father later George IV so would likely have become queen

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Berlin, 1951 To celebrate my 2-yr stampiversary here is one of the stamps that started it all, the slightly grubby 30pfg liberty bell (clapper right)* from my Dad's childhood album. The one on the right (clapper left) was bought at the LPS stamp faire in earlier this year

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Norway. It's either 1937-38 version or the 40-41 one. I was tending towards the earlier but can't see a watermark. They're not always clear though. What I am interested in is the crazy red embossed posthorn mark. Any stamp hounds know anything about that?

Sorry I've not posted stamp things much recently. I've hit a known bug in android that hides photos from other apps for hours if they've been edited and saved over the original file. The work-around is to 'Save A Copy' instead so hopefully now I've figured that out I'll be right back on my bullshit

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Ukraine 2026 A powerful set of stamps 'commemorating' the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl meltdown. The left-hand stamp has a verse from Revelations and the right-hand stamp mentions Russia attacking the protective shell in 2025

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Got a lovely bunch of stuff today, sent by my lovely Boston-based stamp-chum Yolanda (@yap617.bsky.social) Czech out that wonderful Lenin FDC. And the space one. There's someone who knows I love eastern block propaganda and space 😍
Two first day covers from Czechoslovakia, one Lenin and one space related. To the left is an envelope with various space and eastern block stamps

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately China, 1963 I've always loved the steep rocy mountains of Chinese art. I should visit China before I'm too old and creaky to enjoy it. I don't like the Tibet and Uyghur stuff but it seems difficult to visit anywhere that isn't blighted by some form of dickery these days
A drawing of a tree growing on a typical jagged Chinese mountain. Rendered in beautiful shades of yellow, green and blue

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Hungary 1959 I honestly live for weird Eastern Block shit like this. 10/10 absolutely perfect, no notes. (I don't actually collect modern stamps as such but joyful nonsense like this goes into a special envelope and I'll eventually put together an album of ridiculousness)

In lieu of a singular #StampOfTheWeek please except 500 of them. I opened the pack I found in the auction gubbins box ($7 from the Smithsonian a billion years ago) Me being me I counted them and put them in a spreadsheet. The Czech ones were welded to each other as usual, what is in their glue?

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately 1998 USA I rather like this Alfred Hitchcock stamp with its little cut-out of his profile. It was in a bunch of USA stamps sent to me by my stamp-chum @yap617.bsky.social after I sent her some British stamps. It's quite exciting getting intercontinental post!
A stamp showing a headshot of Alfred Hitchcock. His profile is cut through the stamp in the top left corner

Found this in the box of gubbins I was handed after the LPS auction. 500 stamps in a suspiciously thin packet bought for $7 from the Smithsonian. It feels almost a shame to open it. I expect there to be a wild stamp-splosion when I do like a confetti canon.

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Netherlands 1926 I found this set in a box of random crap that was foisted on me at the end of the LPS auction. This is another set of Dutch charity stamps, very different to the modern 1931 ones I posted a few weeks back. The silver is lovely on the 2c stamp, a great find
