I'll be honest, I didn't even know Cottbus stamps were a thing til I saw John at Philatelovely selling them and even the old fella at stamp club who has collected German stamps forever seemed surprised by them. Weird stamps you say? I'm in!

#StampOfTheWeek #Philately Cottbus, Germany, 1946 These semi-postals (stamps with a bit added to support a cause) were issued in 1946 to help fund the rebuilding of Cottbus, a German city near the Polish border. It is a cultural centre for the Sorbs, a Slavic people indigenous to the area.

At the festival I heard Blodeuwedd mentioned even more times than Nessie so thought I'd use this stamp She is in a collection of ancient Welsh tales called the Mabinogion and is made from flowers to be the bride of a hero who is cursed to never have a human wife. It all goes horribly wrong of course

the artist, Jim, generally does MS Paint renditions of ridiculous scenes people have suggested but chose to do this in a woodcut tarot style. He then collaborated with Anna Langley an actual woodcut artist who carved a version of his original MS Paint design www.jimll.co.uk

As a bonus you can have the Melilla version of the 'stamp' too. Melilla is another Spanish city enclave on the coast of Morocco. Makes me wonder why Spain is so grrr about Gibraltar when they have a bunch of similar enclaves in other countries themselves?

#StampOfTheDay #Philately Greece 1983 I went to see the Odyssey on Tuesday. It was a proper assault on the senses and the peril felt very perilous. Great stuff. This stamp is from a series of Homer represented in ancient art and pictures the escape from Polyphemus on a vase from the 6th century B.C
