Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 5hFairy show writing: complete! I've finally done it - reduced my first draft of c.4 hours to just over two for my new Faerie show. Excited and nervous for what I hope is going to my best show yet. If it goes well I'll be touring it all over the country. Assuming the fae don't do a Rev. Kirk on me. 170

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Regardless of how good the Odyssey film is it is crazy to me that people keep retelling the same story when there exist no big budget filmed versions of anything from (just for example) Sumerian and Irish epics when the material is just as good. Genuinely baffled. 381
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Making little stickers for my Bristol event at the end of the month. I'm doing a health and safety bit (drawn from an 1872 poem published in the Bristol Chronicle) and my stickers reference that. I adore live storytelling and I hope the audience appreciates the silliness of it all as much as I do. 032
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 27/06/2026New episode! Guy of Warwick 2. After the events of part 1 Guy's gone back to England to get married. So this is probably just a sedate tale of family life. Features violence, Dukes, more violence, more Dukes and all around a bit of a bad Guy. Listen on the website or wherever you get podcasts!talesofbritainandireland.comEpisodes 58 & 59 : Guy of Warwick - Tales of Britain and IrelandA podcast telling the story of what was for centuries one of England's most popular legends - featuring bloodlust, regular lust, cows and the French. 130

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 10/05/2026So excited to be able to announce an unusual live Storytelling event this July I'll be telling in the Cavernous vaults beneath Brunel's Bristol Bridge. Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 02/05/2026Warwick castle was lovely but surprising lack of Guy of Warwick stuff (to me, only to me). Lots of real history and the like instead. Left appropriate feedback 050

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 21/04/2026This story is also found in Scandinavia extensively. and yes it's a tale to explain churches built in inconvenient locations that made sense to their builders. but i like to take the stories at face value #folklore #englishfolklore #devil #faeries #churches 092

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 31/01/2026Really enjoyed seeing the Angel of the North up close. Nice place get an ice cream, briefly discuss who would win in a fight - Statue of Liberty (bigger, fire) or the Angel of the North (can fly, is Northern), and generally reflect on mortality, nostalgia and remembering. 070
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 30/01/2026I do enjoy the dissonance in the illustrations of medieval romances and their contents. The story this is illustrating for instance (spoilers for my upcoming episode) is about war, rape, mass murder, has women forced to eat their husbands and lots more ultra-violence. But it's a happy picture! 030

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 19/01/2026Just made a little noise of delight in finding an in story justification as to why one person alone has to fight the dragon in this 17th c version of Guy of Warwick. Feel a kinship with the author who was clearly just as bothered as I usually am by the question "why don't they just send an army?" 060
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 17/01/2026A great bit in this legend is when the hero enters a tournament to win the hand of the emperor's daughter He viciously slaughters every single other entrant Having won her hand tells her and her dad he can't possibly take it cos he's loyal to his true love in England Leaves. What a dick. Love it 150
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 16/01/2026Working on the next episode today. Here's a hint. A picture of some Guy in armour rudely interrupting a tender moment between a lion and dragon. What a jerk. 060
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 13/01/2026When researching Elliot O'Donnell I came across this picture which I particularly enjoy. This is a Canadian ghost, and seems to have been the kind of thing O'Donnell encountered regularly, or was at least told about by others. His world was absolutely chock full of supernatural horrors it seems. 070

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 21/12/2025Appreciated this George and the dragon woodcut at Chester cathedral. So often the dragon in religious depictions is a poor tiny little iguana size thing I feel sorry for it. Here while not exactly huge it's a decent size and looks helluva fierce. Also appreciate the skull detail in its lair. 191
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 17/12/2025One of the things I love about England is how you can stop in a little town and discover something like this. Not just a greasy pole that people used shin up to win a prize as part of the annual crab fair (decorated for Christmas) but also a notice board explaining it. Perfect (Egremont Cumbria) 092

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Doing an interview for BBC Radio Leeds tomorrow before my (sold out) gig, talking a bit about the popularity of folklore. Find myself wondering how much of it is due to folklore being a rich repository of culture that creatives of all types can draw on for inspiration that isn't copyrighted? 2150

Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 08/06/2025Everytime I chance upon the story of Val Sans Retour (Morgan Le Fay traps unfaithful knights in a forest, but it's sort of nice, they can basically do anything but leave)... I am struck by it's unfulfilled potential for some unhinged homoerotic fanfiction. Brocéliande.. more like BROcéliande 040
Tales of Britain and Ireland @talesofbritireland.bsky.social · 06/06/2025A week to go to my next event. First ever with live music! Excited and a little bit nervous but I do love doing these shows! 250
