Happy to have woke up to find I have passed become an #ISTE Certified Educator. It was a long process but allowed me to learn and reflect on my practices.

I had a great time presenting at the #Canva #TeachMeet about how we introduce Canva to the younger year groups. But had an equally great time learning about using the new Canva Code feature. A game changer. Has anyone else played yet? #EduSkyAU

Rather than just looking at what’s problematic, we need to research what is looking at the value SM brings with quality experiences, complex lived experience and use it to inform evidence based policy going forward

@aleeshajoy.bsky.social on the youth social media ban in Aus: we need to create a child safe internet with a radical shift. Building it by slowing down, using evidence based research and build it with young people’s voices, rather than with speed and disruption #EduSkyAU #Edutech

The question left in my head from yesterday - as teaching professionals are we modeling transparency with AI like we expect from our students? I haven’t seen newsletters or tasks sheets with a “AI was used to help…” disclaimer at the bottom. How are you modeling this? #EduSkyAU #MIEE #EdTech

Here are some of the images generated: ChatGPT, Copilot and Canva. Note Canva nearly did it but the girl had to write with two hands simultaneously #EduSkyAU

010

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

Oh thanks! We will try negatives tomorrow!

100

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

@aiineducation.bsky.social do you have any other examples that we can try in class? #EduSkyAU

010

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

We tried Copilot and ChatGPT. Didn’t try Canva, that may be a job for tomorrow’s class. But now they want more examples of things it can’t do

120

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

Today I learnt #AI can’t generate images of left handed people writing, we tried many prompts and had a great discussion with my students as to why that may be. They want to know what else it can’t do. Have you come across any other examples to use with students? #EduSkyAU

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 29/04/2025

Absolutely! And I don’t think it was an answer they would have expected in the end, because I didn’t really expect it from myself. #EduSkyAU

A3: in my last role I was asked what I wanted to do next, I’d done the next logical job and knew it wasn’t that. That conversation had me reflect on what I was enjoying doing and ended up seeing me pivot to my Tech based role from an EaLD one. 1 yr later and i know it was the right choice.

020

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 29/04/2025

Yes this! Walking with them and meeting them where they are. Often I have teachers pop in for help and say “oh I’m sorry I know you have better things to do than teach me something so simple” and I’m always like no, this is what I’m here for and I’m more than happy to help with whatever YOU need.

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 29/04/2025

Hi! Nice to be able to make this one, albeit quickly pop on before having to run out!

I have loved seeing people run with new tech ideas I have coached them through using, then sharing this knowledge and helping their colleagues use whatever tool it was. That always makes my day! #EduSkyAU

I was hired as a grad by someone who became, and still is an amazing mentor for me. She taught me how to lead with kindness and empathy and made me a better teacher and leader and has also become a great friend. #EduSkyAU

*stylus over typing, I mean.

010

Kate Kerr @mskateau.bsky.social · 24/04/2025

Handwriting is so important. Especially as our exams are handwritten. I encourage students to use their stylus over writing, and I tend to do that too (and now with the autoneaten tools it is so much easier!)

A message from Perth to anyone watching #drivetosurvive - Daniel Ricciardo’s farm is NOT in Perth. Yes, it’s in our giant state but it’s 3 hours south of Perth, in the wine region. Our capital city is not farmland with kangaroos, despite what @netflix.com and Horner say. #F1 #perthisok

It’s Election Day in WA, which means it’s #democracysausage day! (For non-Australians, we vote at local schools and the P&F committees do sausage sizzles to raise funds.) I’m voting at East Vic Park Primary, which always has veggie and halal options. Support your local PS and their P&F today.

A hand holding a sausage in a bun, with onions, tomato sauce and mustard. Democracy sausage style.

STICKERS! We bought 1000s of stickers for staff and students to personalise their devices. The teachers have ❤️❤️❤️ choosing them during PL days. Plus they feel more ownership of devices, and don’t pick up someone else’s. Easy #joybubbles #EduSkyAU

Last #HolidayReads (we go back a week early and take an extra week in July) 13. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It’s like the film Sliding Doors, but a book. All the lives you could have lived if you changed one thing.

#HolidayReads 12. Death of the Author by @nnedi.bsky.social I was SO excited this came out on my last week of school holidays and devoured it. Two stories in one, two authors in one. Everything I’ve read by Nnedi has been amazing and left me thinking and this is no exception. #BookSky

Bunnings is wild. The website says item is instock in a specific store. Staff member looks and can’t locate it, but tells me I can do click and collect on it and pick it by the end of the day. Let’s see if the click and collect elves can find it!

As an aside, about 10 years ago one of my EaLD students knew I loved to read. She gave me a copy of Elif Shafak’s The 40 Rules of Love and asked me to read it as it was about an important part of her culture. It was also fantastic.

#HolidayReads 7. The Mires by @tinamakereti.bsky.social The best book I’ve read all year. I read it in 48 hours and it seems apt that some was at the beach, since water is such an important character to the story. Beautifully written dealing with important themes. You should read it. #BookSky

#HolidayReads 6 Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange. A generational narrative of a Cheyenne family, which is a quasi-sequel to his book There There. I couldn’t help but draw parallels between the effects of colonisation on Native American and Australia’s First Nations’ peoples. #BookSky

Yes, the pencil magnets on to that bit, but working in a school we had A LOT fall off and get lost when we trialled without it. So now all staff and students get the add-on bit too.
