VERY important paper! This study detected SARS-CoV-2 in the air of common areas of 4 big US airports. SARS-CoV-2 detected in 98% of samples through the year. Influenza A was found during flu season. That’s why you want to wear an N95 respirator in an airport! And all indoor public spaces all year!

The Sex Matters event has been dropped by Féile an Phobail www.facebook.com/story.php?st...
Statement from Féile an Phobail

An event application was submitted to this years Féile programme by a group called the Women’s Rights Network.

Féile an Phobail was unaware from the initial submission that this event would promote campaigns against rights for the Transgender community.

Féile an Phobail takes pride in standing up for those who are marginalised and attacked.

Féile was formed in 1988 at a time when the community of West Belfast was being attacked and demonised, and as a positive response to that demonisation.

In recent years Féile has organised discussion events with the Transgender community, providing a platform to raise issues of pressing concern, and we fully support the right of the Transgender community to be treated with equality and respect.

On that basis, Féile an Phobail has informed the organiser of this event that we are withdrawing their event.

This event is no longer part of the Féile programme.

Bonfires are crime scenes, from hate displaces to home burnings. 'In one incident, firefighters had to withdraw from a bonfire in Cookstown, Tyrone, as a result of a hostile crowd.' Bonfires have changed from small community bonfires to megastructures - they are now paramilitary shows of strenth.

I just discovered “We” here in hay on wye because there are stacks of it in one of the used bookshops (that handles excess stock). This is the prototypical lonely male protagonist in a grey dystopian sci-fi novel. Published in 1924.
Cover of the book “We” by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Features a silhouette of a figure and lines denoting some mathematical breakdown of it.

The book is sitting on a tree stump.

The animation chat has me thinking one telling thing - in the years since AI arrived, there's not been a ground-up indie phenomenon, like we saw with earlier tech (Flash, etc). It hasn't unlocked anyone's creativity. For all the anti-gatekeeping rhetroic, nothing anyone cares about has been born.

SoftBank is genuinely destroying itself trying to afford to pay OpenAI $22.5bn. There isn’t enough money to fund this company! www.reuters.com/business/med...
NEW YORK/TOKYO/SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 19 (Reuters) - SoftBank Group (9984.I) • is racing to close a $22.5 billion funding commitment to OpenAl by year-end through an array of cash-raising schemes, including a sale of some investments, and could tap its undrawn margin loans borrowed against its valuable ownership in chip firm Arm Holdings, sources said.
The "all-in" bet on OpenAl is among the biggest yet by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, as the Japanese billionaire seeks to improve his firm's position in the race for artificial intelligence. To come up with the money, Son has already sold SoftBank's entire $5.8 billion stake in Al chip leader Nvidia (NVDA.O)E, offloaded $4.8 billion of its T-Mobile US (IMUS.O) a stake, and slashed staff. c

I mean, things are tough all over. If rude criticism stops you from making art, you should probably not be making art.
There's a discourse that basically goes:
Alice: But I want to use Al to do art
Bob: Just do it yourself
Alice: But I am not good at it Bob: Just be bad, and post it on the internet, it's fine!
And Bob is lying, it sucks, you will get savaged as anyone who has taken a picture of their dinner knows.

Guess I'll post this again
A digital poster in the style of a World War II propaganda piece. Isolaed on a yellow background, a normal, squarish, 20-something guy with glasses is sitting working on a laptop. A ghostly figure of Hitler has his arm around the guy and is grinning and shaking a fist triumphantly looking at the laptop screen. On the lid of the laptop where an apple might otherwise be is an openAI logo, bright green, and dripping green ooze down the lid. Text on the poster, in combinations of sans-serif type and brush script reads:
Using Generative AI?
You’re prompting with Hitler!
GenAI is a Fascist Project!
Try using your brain instead
Don’t surrender your creativity to the tech billionaire’s control

A few people have sent me this piece. It is riddled with outright lies, stuff about Arrow Electronics and NVIDIA (Arrow never mentions NVDA in any earnings docs and has said nothing about stock) and outright falsehoods about Oracle. This is very likely AI generated, written to panic people.
The Algorithm That Detected a $610 Billion Fraud: How Machine Intelligence Exposed the AI Industry’s Circular Financing SchemeChannel checks conducted by this author support the latter hypothesis. Arrow Electronics, a major semiconductor distributor, reported in its Q3 2025 earnings that Nvidia product inventory days stood at 78, compared to a 52-day average for other product lines. This represents 50% higher inventory holding periods, indicating distribution channel saturation.

It cost me €8 to get from the airport to my hotel in Amsterdam, which isn’t in the city center. In less time than an uber and much cheaper. We spent less time waiting for trains/transfers (10 minutes in total) than it would have taken for the first driver to pick us up.
