This is a great example to show that we don't really need the government to subsidize clean energy through tax credits and alike, for people to make the transition to clean cars. We just need to stop subsidizing the oil and gas industry.

I think a major difference between Dems and Republicans is that Republicans could turn even the hint of this sort of abuse into a culture war event. Remember the IRS targeting conservative orgs (they weren't but never mind)? Dems mostly don't have a media machinery to gin up this sort of outrage.
