Would love to see Orphans of the Tide by Struan Murray given a go. I loved reading that to Big 'Un and Mrs W is currently reading it to Little 'Un, and there was lots of shouting and squawking when they hit the big twist last night.

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell is a possibility. There's a lot of action in that, and the chapters feel somewhat episodic. But fantasy require expensive locations and loads of CGI.

Some of the fantasy books aimed at the middle-to-older end of the kid reading scale could work over six, maybe eight episodes, but ten is a push. But they'd be so expensive to film.

I think you're supposed to make the best movie you can, but it's more fun making something that sounds truly awful. Who's up for an R-rated prison-based fairy tale from Oliver Stone, starring Martin Lawrence, Zack Galifanakis, Pat Morita and David Schneider? tentpolegame.com/m/9oESvOAml9Tg

Overlay that on a map of the Reform local election votes and I bet those gaps look very teal.

Big shout out to Nic Maddinson (previous record: 27 runs in four innings) who has returned to the Australian Test cricket side with a blistering 33 ball duck.

Kemi Badenoch's rejuvenation of the Conservative party has won over an impressively wide coalition of voters, from people who write about politics for the Times to people who write about politics for the Telegraph.

(Although I suspect the smart money is getting the rights to Australian/ Canadian/ NZ reality TV shows like Survivor/ the Bachelor and cosy dramas). Get stuff with 5+ series that people can binge-watch. Half-decent, affordable ballast for both the iPlayer and the schedules makes sense!

That's a problem for after the UK population has agreed to Rejoin, though. (Obviously, the Government should negotiate terms for rejoining THEN put it to a referendum, but that won't happen because we're collectively dumb as bricks)

Also, there's the not inconsiderable advantage of being able to point at the Stay Out campaigners saying "they're the ones who fed you a crock of shit last time", with that point being undeniably true.

David Whitley @mrdavidwhitley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The difference in campaign dynamics this time is that the Rejoin side can be the one giving 100 different fantasy versions of what it'll be like, and the easy approach is saying we'll keep the pound (probably true) and get a Schengen opt-out (probably less true).

David Whitley @mrdavidwhitley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Would be interested to see the figures for Schengen membership but keeping the pound, which is what I suspect the deal would be.
