Everybody's loving this clip, for good reason, but it should remind everyone that cities therefore have an obligation to build enough housing that all these marginalized and outcast people can come and afford to live in them on minimum wage *without* becoming homeless. YIMBY!

Rising residential school denialism and anti-Indigenous racism have created an environment where white supremacists feel emboldened to target and intimidate First Nations in their communities. It’s disgusting and completely unacceptable.

The worst part is that this came at a pivotal moment, where Canada barely rallied to defend our flagging democracy and the last vestiges of progressive tolerance. And Mark Carney took that as a signal that he is empowered to enact the most cynical, self-serving corporate agenda I've ever seen.

Did you know, through Bill C-37 the Liberal government has refused to confirm the human right of all First Nations individuals to clean drinking water on reserve. Previous water legislation explicitly recognized this right, but the Liberals have deliberately removed it in Bill C-37. (1/3)

My hot take is that in order to drive one of these monstrosities, you need to obtain a specialty license and be a registered tradesperson. Otherwise, they need to be banned entirely from our roads due to the dangers they pose.
An infographic that illustrates the historical evolution and changing proportions of pickup truck designs over five distinct eras spanning from 1961 to 2021. The chart details how the physical footprint allocated to the passenger cabin (Cab) has steadily increased while the space allocated to the cargo area (Bed) has shrunk over time.

Five top-down vehicle outlines are arranged horizontally, each color-coded with an orange front section for the cab and a blue rear section for the truck bed. Side brackets on the right clearly demarcate the "Cab" (orange) and "Bed" (blue) portions of the vehicles.

The changing percentage breakdown for each era is shown as follows:

1961–1979: The smallest cab size at 36%, contrasted against the largest truck bed capacity at 64%.

1980–1997: The cab size increases to 40%, while the truck bed decreases to 60%.

1997–2003: An even split in design, where both the cab and the truck bed occupy exactly 50% of the vehicle space.

2004–2015: The trend reverses completely with the cab expanding to 60%, leaving the truck bed at 40%.

2015–2021: The final era demonstrates the most dramatic shift, featuring the largest cab configuration at 63% and the smallest truck bed space at just 37%.An infographic titled "The higher the bonnet, the bigger the blind spot: More high-fronted SUVs would mean more children drivers don't see."

It compares the forward visibility and blind zones of three vehicles relative to the heights of children. The diagram showcases the driver's line of sight over the hood for three distinct vehicle classes:

RAM TRX (Large Pickup Truck): A dotted red line extends from the driver's eye level over a very high hood line. Two child silhouettes are completely hidden within the front blind zone: a 9-year-old child (1.36m) and a 4.5-year-old child (1.1m).

Land Rover Defender (SUV): A dotted red line extends over a moderately high hood line. A single child silhouette representing a 4.5-year-old child (1.1m) is entirely obscured in the front blind zone.

VW Golf (Hatchback/Compact Car): A dotted green line extends over a low, sloping hood line. A 4.5-year-old child silhouette (1.1m) stands directly in front of the vehicle and is clearly visible above the green sightline, showing no blind spot for a child of this height.

Fine print at the bottom reads: "Analysis based on children of average European height standing to the centre of vehicle fronts. Drivers are of average European adult height. Vehicle assessment and modelling by Summerskill / Loughborough University SDCA (2025)." An infographic that compares the front blind zone distances of 10 different vehicles.

A legend at the top defines two driving positions:

Blue line: Driver Sitting In Traditional, Relaxed Position
Red line: Driver Leaning Forward Over Steering Wheel

The main chart displays side-profile silhouettes of 10 vehicles arranged vertically from largest blind zone to smallest. Each silhouette projects a red cone (leaning forward) and a longer blue cone (relaxed position) from the windshield to the ground, representing the blind spot distance in feet and inches.

The tested vehicles and their respective blind zone measurements are:

Cadillac ESCALADE: 8'5" (red) / 10'2" (blue)
Ford F150: 7'4" (red) / 9'7" (blue)
Ford EXPLORER: 5'11" (red) / 8'5" (blue)
Jeep RENEGADE: 5'4" (red) / 7'1" (blue)
GMC TERRAIN: 4'0" (red) / 5'8" (blue)
Honda ODYSSEY: 3'0" (red) / 5'8" (blue)
Subaru FORESTER: 3'10" (red) / 5'6" (blue)
Hyundai TUCSON: 3'4" (red) / 5'4" (blue)
Honda CR-V: 3'4" (red) / 4'6" (blue)
Toyota CAMRY: 1'10" (red) / 3'3" (blue)

Fine print at the bottom reads: "Blind zone distances vary greatly based on factors such as seat position, driver height and object size. Above results were calculated using standardized measurements with an average height (5'4") female driver and a traffic cone that is about the average height of a 1-year-old child (29"). Measurements were taken from two different seating positions when the driver could see the top of the traffic cone."

Governments are chasing AI investment, even as their publics turn against the technology and the data centers that power it. Canada’s Mark Carney has chosen a shameless approach: to cast the opposition as a lack of “literacy” as he sets out to (re)educate Canadians about the benefits of AI.

It’s not Canadians that need to become more literate on AI; it’s Mark Carney. He needs to see the reality of the technology and the harms it’s causing to the people he’s supposed to serve, not just buying industry narratives based on hype instead of reality. disconnect.blog/ai-oppositio...
If anyone needs better literacy on AI, it is not the public, but Carney himself.

Canadians may not know exactly how a large language model functions, but they can see how the chatbots and image generators they’ve made possible have changed society for the worse in just a few years. At this point, I’d put far more trust in the data centre protesters and the concerned parents to craft a real AI strategy than in the prime minister.
