My gut feeling is that backhaul on UK networks is often dismal. Regularly encounter situations where the phone shows a reasonable signal but packets don’t flow. For the kind of things I do on a phone I’d take responsiveness over total speed most of the time.

Hot spares only really make sense when you've got a lot of spindles to play with (HPE suggest 4 spares on their 24-disk shelves, for example). With a narrow array if the risk of raidz1 is acceptable you might as well use the extra disk for storage than having it as an spare.

With only four disks I'd go with raidz2 across all four so you'll still have redundancy while resilvering in the event of a disk failure.

Concessions being made on the UC & PIP Bill is not enough because disabled people will still become poorer. The government should withdraw the Bill, work with disability organisations & other charities to come up with a welfare system that looks after people. That’s the real Labour thing to do.
