I'm making a bus transfer through downtown tonight (and running a couple errands) and only found out about the Nicollet closure through this post. It's a massive inconvenience to transit riders. Nicollet closures should be very rare but are common. Plenty of other places to hold events downtown!

Can't say enough good things about the Twin Cities Documenters program! Coverage of local meetings is generally light (or nonexistent) unless something controversial comes up. LOTS of things come up at these meetings that are worth reporting on. If you can donate, it's much appreciated!

The onus is on drivers to keep people safe in individual situations. But is on city leaders to design roadways so that these types of incidents are less common. Minneapolis is targeting zero traffic deaths by design. Helsinki hasn't had one in 21 months, by design. St Paul, it's time to commit.

I spotted this on Monday. My guess is the Hiawatha LRT detours were approved without consideration of other closures, so contractors put them up as laid out This is mainly due to the MnDOT closure(s), but the bigger issue seems to be a complete lack of coordination between agencies and departments

you can see the new franklin ave street design with a dedicated bike path coming together east of 35, to match and link up to what exists currently on franklin west of lyndale ave. another piece of great bike infrastructure and safer streets coming to minneapolis!

The area around Hiawatha now has three blocked off pedestrian connections, all listed as 'temporary' despite one going for several years and blocking off sidewalks to the Franklin Ave light rail station A mile plus detour for people walking and rolling is unacceptable. Send in your comments

The last picture highlights the apparent lack of communication between levels of government with this closure. That's a (orange & blue) needle kiosk from a Mpls Health Dept program to address opioid use now locked off behind the chain link fence at the entrance to the 24th St bridge over Hiawatha

I really need to watch this one and when it comes back to council. My suspicion is the recent Sleep Number building sale for a data center and how data centers are viewed as a boon to the struggling downtown office market are driving this www.kare11.com/article/news...

one thing being lost in discourse is that rapid response networks are just a tool. they aren’t the end all, be all here. the actual goal is to connect with neighbors! and now with the leaks, they’re not being handed out like they were go talk to your neighbors to find a chat! or you can make one!

DFL sent an email about federal occupation, alex pretti’s murder, and the threat of donald trump wanting minnesota’s voter rolls with less than a week before caucuses constitutional observers will be there & a hotline? this just doesn’t feel like enough to make people feel safe
Showing Up for Each Other When Our
State Remains Under Threat
This past weekend, Minnesotans lost another neighbor to ICE’s violence and to Trump’s retribution campaign against our state. Alex Pretti was an ICU nurse, a veteran caretaker, a researcher, a dog dad, and a helper in the truest sense of the word. He was killed in broad daylight while observing ICE agents. His last words were, “Are you okay?” to the woman agents threw to the ground.

Even in the freezing cold and when faced with the unthinkable, people across Minneapolis continue to show up for one another. Teachers, charity workers, volunteers, and neighbors have peacefully observed, patrolled, documented, and protected each other and their communities under extraordinary circumstances. Minnesotans are refusing to let fear win in this moment, and that is holding our state together as the nation is watching.Trump made it clear this weekend that he’s after Minnesota’s voter rolls. This is a stark reminder that defending our communities and our democracy requires showing up together. And just one week away, Caucus Night on February 3rd is the best way to do just that. It’s a way to stand up for one another, locally and collectively, when our state is under threat. Just as people have taken risks to keep their neighbors safe on the streets, showing up to caucus is a concrete way to stand with one another and defend our communities as Minnesota is under threat.Preparing for ICE Activity at Caucuses

Our priority is also to make sure Minnesotans can participate in caucuses safely and confidently.

The DFL is continuing work with legal experts and national partners to equip local leaders with clear guidance and support — including training more than 8,000 Constitutional Observers statewide. We’ve also developed a comprehensive ICE response plan with printable materials, legal hotlines, and step-by-step guidance for caucus leaders.

Our neighborhood org applied this year but was turned down. We intended to support seniors with shoveling and addressing critical path areas. The senior support program makes sense, but is focused on single family home owners. Issues go beyond just those cases, especially in majority rental areas

New construction in the Elliot Park neighborhood brought park dedication fees, which allowed us to build a new skate park with lighting in 2020 ($400k) and is now paying for additional amenities at Elliot Park and Franklin Steele, including a new youth soccer field, opening 2026 ($1.5 million)

Adding to this a bit: These kiosks are around the city, a lot at Metro Transit stops. They were funded through a 2020 program with Mpls public health and put out in an emergency process, so it was chaotic. They were brought in for refurbishment last year and the issue came up when putting them back
