The democratization of higher ed was unimaginable without federal spending, selective credit policies (they help banks lend), and regulation.

Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff www.reuters.com/business/fin...
Summary
Companies
• Anthropic IPO could value the company at more than $2
trillion
• Anthropic lost $42 billion in 2025
• Al lab spent $7.33 billion on compute and infrastructure last year
• Operating loss widened to $8.06 billion in 2025 from $2.98 billion in 2024
• Execs, industry analysts have expressed concerns over harms of Al tech
Sept 28 (Reuters) - Anthropic is making a massive bet that Al will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet, according to its IPO prospectus seen by Reuters.
But the cost to get there will be staggering. Anthropic reported a net loss of $42 billion in 2025, and plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming year, according to the
prospectus.

You have to hand it to the Times. When it comes to local stuff they are just so good at trolling 90 percent of their own readers while making the other 10 percent happy. I like to imagine that the Real Estate people and the Vows people have a scoreboard, like Legolas and Gimli in Lord of the Rings.

She adds, "But Republicans have made it a big attack on you," which is a telling statement. Stated simply: We don't find it newsworthy either, but it's our job to use talking points from one side and parrot them back to the other side. If not, we'll be accused of bias. (Also, my boss is Bari Weiss)

Policing in Navy Yard is already out of control, and criminalization is likely to only make things worse.

House Republicans failed to muster the necessary votes to back a proposed constitutional amendment that would set membership of SCOTUS at nine, although they did remind everyone that the number of justices is not enshrined in the Constitution and can be amended at any time by statute.

This *might* create an opening to discuss how the Treasury funds spending (by Congressional approval and creating currency; NOT by redistributing tax revenues). But I won't hold my breath.

Also, scholars (and others) have challenged the tax-and-spend narrative for generations. Heterodox schools of thought are seen as "fringe" because they threaten a story about federal power that is held sacred (namely: that it's separable from "private" market forces).

Operationally speaking, the U.S. has *never* relied upon tax revenues to spend. Bond sales literally swap IOUs (replacing US dollars with an interest-bearing version). Now the *politics* of taxation is a big deal; no disagreement there.
