There are a few options: 1. Dutra stays until the “Southeast Long Beach Sector” schedules a special meeting to select its next candidate. This would likely go to Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson (see weighted vote). Bell Mayor Ali Saleh lost by one vote to Dutra last time and may also be nominated.

Swearing in of new Whittier City Council members is 4/28 so he’s still on board through April’s Regular Metro Board Meeting. But, they’ll have to elect a new Metro Board Chair for the next month (no June meeting). The code governing Metro Board says “shall be a mayor or a member of a city council.”
