One of several bottom lines about "generative AI" is if you are generating images, you're signaling you're completely OK with mass labor theft because it's from creative workers you see as beneath you. You're morally comfortable exploiting others' labor and property in public.

At least I have the benefit of my history of creating and lots of real documents (sketchbooks, traditional media pieces, etc) as a paper trail for what I've always done. The relationship I have with my work when I'm making it is still meaningful to me & I expect will remain so long as I'm here.

People are very good at being wrong loudly on the open internet, unfortunately. I'm not going to video myself drawing every single piece nor save speedpaints of everything I do forever. That'd require a massive amount of storage, for one thing. I share some here and there & keep my layered files.

I doubt we're ever gonna get any kind of reckoning for the massive level of sheer brazen theft that has been committed against creative workers, let alone also considering the consequences we have to shoulder, and it's ass. We shouldn't have to deal with this at all. It's so fucked up.

Hah! They do kinda in some ways. I've joked I'm lalafell shaped (no shoulders, big hips). They're their own character but inevitably some of my heart is in them. ♥ And yeah, it sucks. I'll carry on. But I have to think about how to keep making a living as I go & prepare for difficulties best I can.

Like this I finished the other day. Heavier outlines work great for sticker designs, but I felt weird about it later. Would people doubt me? Then I thought an algorithm is never gonna get those noulith angles right lol. I hope my sense of composition & flair shines through. bsky.app/profile/did:...

I hate how the AI shit looms when I'm drawing now. Will a half-tidied sketch cause doubt for "lines that don't make sense"? Is my style too clean or too close to the generic cartoon barf? If I color a piece in the golden hour, will that get interpreted as the "AI piss filter"? This sucks, man.

If you think an artist's style looks like AI but you can scroll back through their portfolio and see them doing the same work before 2020, congrats, you're not looking at an AI grifter. You're looking at one of the original victims whose entire style AI stole.

So grateful that there are so many people who still care about and support art, monetarily or otherwise. A single encouraging word can still make my day. I reflect on the culture we’ve built as furries and my heart just overflows. It’s an oasis in a wasteland and idk what I’d do without all of you.

Drew my WoL (@ethryaswiftstep.bsky.social) for stickers to trade at GATEway FATE! Super looking forward to it!!

Waist-up digital illustration of a lalafell sage smiling at the viewer with their nouliths flying about them. They're wearing a fancy white robe with golden details and asymmetrical black fur collar trim, gloves with partial armor and gray fabric palms, round golden glasses, and mismatched earrings. They have dark brown hair with subtle red streaks and bright green eyes. One hand is held in front of them with the other extended out toward their side. Three of the nouliths fly behind them while the fourth streaks across the front with its aether trail backing text that reads "Ethrya Swiftstep" and then, smaller, "Coeurl, Crystal". Art by Moth Monarch, who is also this character's player in FFXIV.

It's astounding how little many people understand about both what makes a business like yours valuable to its owner (money, while important, isn't the only thing at all) + just how much a recognized and loved IP is worth. 5 figures is either joking or insult money.

Working on my stickers!! Aaaaa

Waist-up sketch of a lalafell Sage in a fancy robe and round glasses smiling at the viewer, one hand held near their chest and the other raised a bit to their side, conducting four nouliths flying around them. The name "Ethrya Swifstep" is roughed in at the bottom over one of the nouliths' aether trails with "Coeurl, Crystal" tiny below.

A few more highlights from my current stock! Thanks so much for spreading the word, it super helps as I'm getting back on my feet after all the health woes & surgery!! 🐛💖 The little things are so powerful!

Photo of an enamel pin of a celestial-themed stag beetle. The body is blue with yellow and gold markings, red elytra and jaws, and darker blue wings and legs. The beetle is holding a yellow sun with many triangular rays in its jaws. The elytra are decorated with a few stars, and more stars and tiny planets decorate the wings. The pin is resting on a blue and purple cloth surface with some gold accents.

Photo of a vibrant purple bandana with an assorted spider design printed in white ink. It's folded in half diagonally and resting on a wood and metal bench as a backdrop.

Photo of three identical stickers of cartoon moths, each running forward and holding up a progress pride flag. They're resting on top of a rainbow pride flag with a white heart over the stripes the middle, framing the stickers nicely. The purple lineart and pattern of the flag on the stickers are metallic. The watermark to the lower left says "shop.mothmonar.ch"

Postcard featuring an illustration of cartoon insects partying: fireflies sit on a frame above shining light on a dancing caterpillar, ant, bumblebee, and mantis below. Text top, middle, and bottom reads "do a little dance / you're a little bug / get down tonight". The back of the postcard is also shown to the left; it is largely blank with some lines and the name of the piece and artist at the bottom.

THE SHOP IS BACK OPEN!! Check out my bugdanas, pins, stickers, prints, sketchbook downloads & more! October's around the corner & the perfect time for a spider bandana in black or vibrant purple!! 🕷 🐛👉 shop.mothmonar.ch 🐝 #sciart #insectart #bugsky

Photo of a black bandana with an assorted spider design printed in white ink. It's folded in half diagonally and resting on a wood and metal bench as a backdrop.

Photo of an enamel pin of a celestial-themed bumblebee. The bee is facing right in a rounded pose with wings sticking out above it. It has a large round eye and sparkles on the body with constellation-like patterns as the wing veins. The antennae and some of the legs are mostly depicted by gold metal. The pin is resting on a blue cloth surface with some round gold accents. Mark at the bottom of the image reads "shop.mothmonar.ch"

Photo of two vinyl stickers of stylized millipedes posed to resemble infinity symbols. Both have metallic color areas for their legs and between their black body segments - the top is rainbow, the bottom is red. They are on a brown-grey background. Text reads "Shop.Mothmonar.ch"

Photo of a lavender sticker sheet with whimsical celestial-themed moths and related accent stickers. Nine moths have moons, stars, and small constellations on their wings with purple, blue, and pink palettes. Their shapes are inspired by real species like the luna moth, comet moth, cecropia moth, sphinx moth, etc. Accent stickers include four-pointed stars, five-pointed stars, a moon, a planet with a ring, and a four-pointed comet as well as a line of moon phases vertically in the middle of the sheet. Some of the stars, moons, and markings have metallic details catching the light here. The top of the sheet reads "Magic Moon Moths" and the bottom has the artist's name, "Moth Monarch".

Almost 2 months since surgery. Still get tired easily sometimes, but the incisions are just pink marks now, and the soreness has been trending better if a little unevenly. Thinking about never having a period again is like the feeling after I had top: finally, this suits me. I'm looking ahead.
