HSBC also has 'expat accounts' but I believe these days they are only for people who are loaded. 'Suits me' is another digital only account alternative for the UK. I knew it as something for people with bad credit or no photo id, but looking now it also advertises itself as for people new to the uk.

But yeah, landlords can be quite fussy with people moving here from abroad. We had access to a UK bank account and still needed guarantors and had to pay a higher deposit.

Other than that, I use Wise to hold money in different currencies. If that's available to you, you could provide proof of address where you are currently but still convert money to pounds, which may or may not help with getting a place.

From context I assume you'd have to have this sorted before you get here? Probably not relevant then, but most big banks have ways of opening accounts in person without a fixed address (so as not to financially exclude people experiencing homelessness).

Watching the old Mortal Kombat in honour of the late Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and I had forgotten how silly it all is. I can even get over christopher lambert when I squint. They made a pretty funny yet douchy johnny cage, and good practical fx goro.

That's very insightful, but it makes me think of how in "the thing" they managed to fit in both types of transformation into one film using physical fx. The fast bit being the defibrillator scene, which was all the more shocking for it.
