When I taught in DC 20ish years ago I showed parts of that movie to middle school kids because they did not believe me that there was such a thing as poor white people. Buddy there are and they are slinging rabbits for food.

Thank you that was the point where I had to put down my phone and walk around for awhile. There are literally thousands of qualified ctu members who have never gotten close to this line with kids. He was a special Ed teacher at the time!

These paintings depict the late Irish pop musician Sinéad O'Connor (1966-2023) in the guise of Joan of Arc, a 15th-century French military leader who later became a saint. As young women, both were punished for refusing to bow to the authority of institutions that later canon-ized them: the music industry and the Roman Catholic Church, respectively. Mulleady suggests a parallel between the contemporary icon and the historical figure, collapsing centuries of time on the surface of these works. Paintings, the artist reminds us, are more than singular objects: They exist on a continuum of past, present, and future images.
