Something unprecedented happened during my visit to the Gulf. For the first time in 20 years in Congress, I was denied entry to U.S. military facilities and even meetings with military leaders. An order from Hegseth - that applies to both parties - to hide the cost of the war.

In case you hadn't been following this disturbing sequence of events, here's a recap: RFK Jr wanted to fund a randomized trial, run by Danes, involving newborn babies in Guinea-Bissau Ethicists across the world, including in Nigeria, Cameroon, & Ethiopia, were horrified: it's an unethical study

Hey Bluesky, could you help spread the word? My goal for the day is one new sale. Here's a lovely pic of some of the Jeremy Creatures currently available at my shop. Each one is designed and hand-sewed by me and takes many hours to create. jeremycreature.bigcartel.com
Here's a lovely pic of some of my hand-sewn, fabric art Jeremy Creatures. The ground is green fur and the background is a beautiful galaxy print fabric. One creature is a gray rock with two different sizes black eyes and a little frown. There's a tall ghost with about 35 black eyes of different sizes and a wide mouth full of sharp teeth. There's another spirit with many eyes, twirly head wisps, and an open mouth with sharp teeth. There's also a ghost with a tiny face, with two different sized eyes and a little frown. There's a black ghost with a gray moon face, their body covered with hand-embroidered stars and planets of various sizes and colors. There's a frowny white ghost featuring embroidered red flowers. There's a super tiny frowny white ghost, and a super tiny black ghost with four eyes and embroidered stars.

Also a reminder that if a magazine is being shady before a contract is signed, you can just pull the piece. You're not obligated to move forward, if an entity is acting in bad faith. Community is a resource. Post about it. Ask colleagues about it. And please know that I'm always a resource.

ICE is fighting voluntary departures tooth and nail because it permits someone to seek legal re-entry to the United States. If someone is deported and they've been in the U.S. for > a yr unlawfully then there's a statutory 10-year bar on reentry. I've seen ICE *appeal* a grant of voluntary departure

And again: if this is how careless the police are with a case this high profile, why would you imagine they'll be any more diligent when applying for warrants to open proles' private communications?

This is such a depressingly foolish direction to take. English, in its various forms, may be a global lingua franca, but that also means it is a thin veneer. If you can only engage with non-Anglophone countries in English, you can barely scratch the surface, culturally and personally.

I was alas too young to have tracked the expression in real-time. If I had thought about it deeply in childhood, I reacted mostly with "if American, why Africa? Aren't we all Americans here?" Childhood, eh?

She's got some kind of lung/airway infection which we are gonna hopefully clear out with antibiotics, and also a small kidney stone to be addressed later. There's going to be at least one more vet visit this month and they need to run urinalysis, so if you can help, please do.

I hear you on this so much! Mostly because my Internet surfing is frequently done with my Japanese television in the background. But even if that's off... there's just a frame-of-mind that privileges text/still photos, and stepping out of that to watch a video is a real wrench.

Ooof, this started me on a little rumination on how, in our bit of America, "colored" was marked as being from "those terrible people in South Africa", while "Negro" was still in common use as polite... although by the time I'd hit middle school, the slider had firmly parked on "Black."

Worth reading in its entirety. This is why authors need to not just read a contract but think hard about the implications of the language. I myself admit I haven't looked hard at this particular clause in my contracts in quite some time.

We may cover this tomorrow, but I just wanted to signal boost this. After months of pushing the administration to make good on its promises for trans youth, NYC appears to be taking steps to do so. I do believe the city can be doing much more, but this is a wonderful start from Mayor Mamdani.

NYC moves to spend nearly $9M of gender-affirming care fund for minors
The funding is part of a $15 million investment announced in June as major hospitals retreated from providing such care.
