Whatever the future holds, whatever the emerging fascist sociopaths are planning to do, they cannot destroy the human spirit. Whatever happens now, a few bright lights of decency will shine through it all. My hope is that future generations will finally learn from these mistakes.

Image of a dirt road through foggy, flat fields, with the sun behind two trees, dimmed by the fog, and a quote by Woodrow Wilson: "You cannot, in human experience, rush into the light. You have to go through the twilight into the broadening day before the noon comes and the full sun is upon the landscape."

I believe this might resonate with many.
I am pieces of all the places I have been, and the people I have loved. I’ve been stitched together by song lyrics, book quotes, adventure, late night conversations, moonlight and the smell of coffee.

For me, the most incredible artefacts from the ancient world are the letters people wrote on clay tablets and sent to one another over thousands of years in Mesopotamia, going back to more than 5,000 years ago. They contain recognisable humanity, warmth and humour. Here's a thread of my favourites.
Two scribes depicted in an ancient Assyrian low relief, using styluses to write on clay tablets.A cuneiform tablet with writing on it.

Fog wraps the mountains, River carves the earth with grace, Journey never ends.
The Wilson River meanders gracefully through the lush Tillamook State Forest in Oregon, its deep teal waters reflecting the rich hues of the surrounding landscape. The river, famed for its clear waters and abundant wildlife, flows westward toward Tillamook Bay, serving as a critical habitat for native salmon and steelhead trout. In fact, this river is celebrated as one of the region’s premier fishing destinations, offering a haven for anglers and nature lovers alike.

The scene captures the Wilson River’s journey through a tranquil canyon framed by moss-covered rocky banks. These rugged, dark stones are softened by thick patches of vibrant green moss, their textures adding depth and character to the forest floor. On either side of the river, the dense forest rises steeply, a mix of towering Douglas firs and bigleaf maples. The autumn season adds subtle warmth, with hints of golden-yellow and burnt orange interwoven with the evergreen foliage.

Mist drifts through the trees, shrouding the distant hills in a soft veil that merges seamlessly with the pale, overcast sky. The diffused light enhances the scene’s muted, earthy palette, creating an atmosphere of peace and stillness. Raindrops dimple the river’s surface, amplifying its sense of calm while suggesting the ever-present moisture of the Pacific Northwest.

This calm stretch of the Wilson River, nestled deep within the Tillamook State Forest, is more than a picturesque landscape—it’s a vital artery of the region’s ecosystem and history. Originally part of lands devastated by the Tillamook Burn in the mid-20th century, the forest surrounding the river has since been meticulously replanted, symbolizing resilience and renewal in the face of environmental destruction. Today, the Wilson River embodies the wild, untamed beauty of Oregon’s natural heritage, inviting visitors to pause and reconnect with the rhythm of the forest.

Was on the other app for years, but rarely interacted. There was so much drama. Here? It feels like a casual social gathering where happy people are mingling and chatting with a smile and good humour. I've interacted more in one week than in the past decade. I didn't expect it to feel so freeing.
