If there's one thing I hate about this era of news media, it's how often I see articles with what appears to be vital information about ground-breaking scandals or data privacy that directly impacts everyone, only for them to be pay-walled. Like I understand financially why that is, but holy shit

Tow Mater: I Don't Care Who You Are, That's Funny

Is Talarico perfect? Fuck no. He's a politician. But I do think he is the most *possible* blue candidate for Texas, and at least right now, I think he has the humility and integrity to acknowledge when he's been wrong and make up for his more disappointing takes. And boy, that scares people.

static.klipy.com

Alt: Tow Mater from Pixar's Cars saying Larry the Cable Guy's catchphrase: I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

030

I'm not confident in flipping Texas. I definitely think this is the most possible it's ever felt, but I also know how much active sabotage is going on, too. If we flip, it's going to be by the skin of our teeth. And instead of hopeful, it'll mostly just be funny since change doesn't come overnight.

120

The deepest, staunchest conservatives are never going to flip. You already have them in the bag. They vote red on principle. The ones you are losing are the ones who are seeing the boy scout pastor that can quote Bible verses talk to people about needing to afford life-saving medication.

New MAGA ad for Paxton, "James Talarico, for they/them, not you." How absolutely horrible. A candidate who's not for any single individual but instead a collective of people. Like, I KNOW this shit works on the deeply conservative, but it's just wild to see the GOP losing touch with voters.

Professionally Holly was up to 8mos late on other comms. She tried to screw a friend out of $300 of work. Personally she cheated with a serial sex pest. I'm still suicidal from years of lies & boundary breaches in that abusive relationship. The videos are gone. You're not entitled to an endorsement.

1289

Not sure about other states, but the right's attempt here in TX to make "the other candidate is WEIRD" their thing because of how successful it was with Walz is just sad to see. Especially when the attack ads from Talarico's team refer to Paxton's actual crimes and history of protecting predators.

OH my god I have so many ideas now.

:O If you find them, I'd love to see them! The loss of JoAnn's is really breaking my heart right now, and our fabric district isn't quite able to meet my needs right now. I'm trying to map out the antique spots that have crafting sellers, but it's been weirdly difficult to find buttons??

100

The urge to dump these on the floor and begin organizing these by size and color and style is far too strong...

120

Before I entered elementary, some teachers came to meet my parents and me for some assessments. This also happened to be the summer that I took every single one of my puzzles and dumped all of their pieces on the floor so I could organize the pieces and do them all at once.

Not wanting an abuser to be working in a public facing position is not the same as casting them into exile I know it feels that way when you're a fan of their public facing content, but that's kinda why it matters that they shouldn't be in that position It dilutes anything resembling consequence.

I'm still vigilant when it comes to Shady because I know it's not just me he's hurt, I've heard from people he's done far worse to and I know he's capable of manipulating people into believing he is the actual victim. I probably look like I'm dragging out my own misery as a result.

So I've kept those stories to myself, and I've told those people their secrets are safe with me. But it also causes me to feel this responsibility to keep Shady's name firmly in the mud, which leads to everyone assuming I'm still hung up on what happened to me. It's not just my pain.

I do believe that a victim should be the one telling the victim's story, not a third party. It's difficult because when I talked openly about what ShadyVox had done to me, multiple other people came to me privately and told their own stories and explained they were too scared to share theirs.

I've started to believe that the secret to eternal life is actually pure, unfettered hatred and bitterness because anyone who has ever experienced happiness always seems to die too early and the most wretched, unhappy misers live for far, far too long.

On second thought, maybe Doctor Who should stay on hiatus.

But still, all of the respect and support in the world to Tsuda, his team, and his union for being the first to take this stand. It's a powerful step in the right direction and deserves credit and praise.

This is a major win, regardless of the lawsuit's dismissal. We can only hope that the same protection afforded to these Japanese actors can be made the standard for all performers globally. Without any international law to protect us and zero regulation of genAI, this is still an uphill battle.

1859

TikTok argued that the AI voice was "generic" and any similarities to Tsuda were a "coincidence." However, the court sided with Tsuda's team here. From the presiding judge: "The unauthorised use of a performer’s voice … can be considered an infringement on publicity rights."

18110

And to be clear, ANN's article itself isn't *wrong.* It's just that the case was two-fold. Tsuda was looking to have these videos from the specific user removed from TikTok. It was dismissed because the user deleted them upon the filing and thus, there was nothing else the court could do.

AI tool that copied actor’s ‘lustrous’ voice violated his rights, Tokyo court rules

Little disappointed in ANN's headline here. Tsuda's point was still made, and Japan has now made it very clear that actor's voices do, in fact, belong to them. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

*Saying nothing is always an option~* No one's saying you need to extend sympathy to someone who has hurt you, and it's not necessary to tone police someone whose intention is to call attention to how they've been hurt.

My last rewatch was about four years ago, and it continues to mean something new to me every time. I really can't explain what it is about this story that affects me so profoundly, but it lives in my brain to this day.

If your anime/art looks like this, then you have my attention.

Character collage from Masaaki Yuasa's Kaiba.

Kino from Kino's Journey and their motorbike, Hermes, sitting in a peaceful field.

Character collage of characters from Medabots.

It gets a little harder after the first five. But Minky Momo was my first, Hamtaro was a VO special interest, YYH is hard to explain, and Wandering Son kickstarted my gender exploration. Special mentions to Astro Boy 2003, Cardcaptor Sakura, Medabots, and Kodocha. And Oban Star-Racers if it counts.

Left to right, top to bottom:
Masaaki Yuasa's Kaiba
Kino's Journey (first series)
Kill la Kill
Mushishi (first series)
Monster
Magical Princess Minky Momo (technically Magical Princess Gigi for kid me)
Hamtaro
Yu Yu Hakusho
Wandering Son
