Michael Menzel reflects on Louis the Bavarian’s constitutional legacy, emphasising his role in establishing a genuine elective monarchy, free from papal interference. Although this was ultimately short-lived, Louis was certainly no ‘minor king’, as he was described. t1p.de/3v42j #medievalsky

Klaus Herbers presents a letter by Pope Stephen V (885–891) that has received little attention in research so far. It is preserved only in a manuscript from Montecassino and deals with parricide. t1p.de/3v42j #medievalsky

Simon Grigo and Peter Orth present a newly discovered fragmentary textual witness of the first Latin translation of the Acts of the Second Council of Nicaea (787). This witness has survived in the form of the cover of a 17th-century book, which is now held in Cologne. t1p.de/3v42j #medievalsky

Alexander Patschovsky examines the frescoes in the Church of the Augustinian Hermits in Constance, commissioned by King Sigismund. He edits the surviving sources describing the frescoes—of which only fragments survive today—and provides a more detailed analysis. t1p.de/3v42j #medievalsky

Throughout Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages, a vast corpus of potentially dangerous texts was dismissed as unorthodox and unauthorised by Christian scholars and policy makers. Yitzhak Hen explores some of the mechanism that allowed the dealing with such texts. see mgh.de/en/blog/post...

Im letzten Beitrag des Deutschen Archivs widmet sich Jasmin Dorfer der Bibliothek des berühmten Paläographen Bernhard Bischoff. Bischoff schrieb nicht in seine Bücher, sondern legte Zettel hinein, auf denen er seine Notizen vermerkte. Dorfer wertet die Zettel in ihrer Studie aus. #medievalsky

Wolfgang Strobl widmet sich einem kartographiehistorischen Thema. Er analysiert eine Stelle aus Felix Fabris Evagatorium genauer, wo Fabri die Orte Toblach und Niederdorf in Tirol geographisch falsch zuordnet. Strobl führt dies auf die Verwendung einer fehlerhaften Karte zurück. #medievalsky

Christof Paulus, Kristýna und Daniel Luger analysieren und edieren die Version der "Passio Pragensium Iudaeorum secundum Iohannem rusticum quadratum" in einer Handschrift aus St. Paul im Lavanttal. Diese Beschreibung des Progroms von 1389 in Prag ist nah zu den Ereignissen entstanden. #medievalsky

Jörg Peltzer führt uns in seinem Aufsatz ins 13. Jahrhundert und analysiert die Beweggründe König Richards von Cornwall für seine Heirat mit Beatrix von Valkenburg im Jahr 1269. Dabei spielten die Reichsministerialen als Stütze von Richards Herrschaft eine große Rolle. #medievalsky

In CONSTRINGERENT, you can see the difference between T and E starting a ligature, and also how R behaves differently depending on what it's joined up to. Note that, just to confuse you, the last E in this word does have a tiny bit of an indentation at left, but nothing like in T masquerading as E.

Note especially the difference between ligatures starting with t and ligatures starting with e. T bends up and around to join the next letter, resulting in a form that looks a whole lot like an e. The actual e also goes into ligature, but does not have an indent in its left side. Example follows...
