Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 12/05/2026I'm on my way to London for my first book signing tour! It feels very surreal, I still have to pinch myself when I remember that I have a book in the world. If you're in London and fancy a signed copy of Legacy, hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to find one after today! 🤞 082
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 07/05/2026It's publication day of Legacy: The Shadow Rises! If any of you pick up a copy, I really hope you enjoy it! 🙂 0228
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 29/04/2026In case anyone who follows me here is interested, I'll be at Bedford Library and Close Encounters Bedford this Saturday. It will be the first time outside of Phoenix Fest to pick up my new book (out next week!) 🙂 043
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 01/04/2026I'm delighted to see how much everyone seems to be enjoying the latest issue of The Phoenix with our April fool's soup edition! Here's my little contribution, which I enjoyed drawing far more than I expected to be possible. Stats and words by @soupgh0st.bsky.social 040
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 29/01/2026I have an advance copy of my upcoming book, Legacy! I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have my first book in my hands at last! 072
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 19/12/2025I was digging through old sketchbooks the other day and realised that there was a point, years ago, when all my drawings in them were really tight and clean. That time has very much passed, my sketches are random and messy now. I'm not sure when that changed though? 392
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 11/12/2025I don't know what it is about this panel, but I'm so happy with how it turned out! From Legacy in The Phoenix. Absolutely beautiful colours as always by @fiverarts.bsky.social And background assists by the awesome @teamsmithy.bsky.social ! Written by Tom and Will Fickling, lettering by Kate Brown. 150
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 28/11/2025Hey all! Just wanted to let you guys know that my upcoming book Legacy, written by Tom and Will Fickling, will be released in May 2026! Here's a first look at the cover! (I am incredibly excited about it!) 21910
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 21/11/2025The most boring post in the world, I know, but does anyone have a clue how these light bulb covers come off? I unscrewed the white plastic ring, but there's a cover beyond it which I have no idea how to remove 😂 110
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 10/10/2025I've not read much stuff drawn by Boichi yet, but the little I have read made me love his work. These great faces are from Dr Stone vol 1. I need to read more! 020
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 22/04/2025Having fun drawing some sound effects this afternoon! 040
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 26/03/2025Here's a tiny sneak peek at what I'm working on at the moment for Legacy series 3! So excited to be able to show more of it in the coming months! 030
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 20/03/2025I was a bit slow on the uptake, but The Phoenix have now announced what I've been working on for the past few months! I'm so excited for Legacy to return for it's third series so that we can finally conclude our story in epic fashion! 2143
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 02/03/2025Morning! If you found me because I was on the latest STCTP episode, here are a few STC drawings I've done over the last few years :) 14011
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 20/12/2024I feel bad that I can't remember who posted this originally, but I screengrabbed this the other day for my own reference. Hope it's useful 130
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 17/12/2024@jamiesmart.bsky.social Our friends' son Felix made this awesome Looshkin beanie in his school D&T class! 131
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 28/11/2024No idea what it is about it, but this album (and this song specifically) is like a lullaby for my baby. It almost always settles her down when I rock her around the room to it in a way that other music doesn't seem to. 030
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Whoa, I had no idea a new Kendrick album had come out! 000
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 17/11/2024Akira! Not much anime around in the UK back then, but my mate's dad got the first VHS release, I must have been about 7 I think? 120
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Hello! Thank you, all the new followers on here. It's heartening to see this place get so much more lively recently. Just to re-introduce myself, I'm Zak and I draw comics for The Phoenix. Here's a smattering of the sorts of things I draw 0123
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 26/02/2024This guy appeared in The Phoenix recently, he's one of my favourite monsters I've drawn in the last few months! 010
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 26/02/2024This evening I'm working on some roughs for issue 4 of my self published comic Monstrosity! It's been on hiatus for yonks, but it's nice getting back to it! 010
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 09/02/2024A close up on a panel from yesterday! Early in my career I was often too timid to put solid black shadows on a drawing, in case I ruined it. It was only when I switched to drawing digitally and having layers for my inks that I relaxed into it a bit and embraced it. I love doing stuff like that now. 020
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 26/01/2024The Joker! I've been rewatching Batman the Animated Series a lot since they put it on UK Netflix. In places it's even better than I'd remembered! 130
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 07/11/2023I'm cooking up some fun comic stuff lately, hopefully I'll be ready to announce it fairly soon, but for now here's a sneaky peek! 110
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 02/11/2023I drew this guy for the @brokenfrontier.bsky.social and Gosh Drink and Draw over on Twitter, the theme was Underground Kingdom. We had 30 mins and I think I took more like 40, but I had fun! 020
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 26/10/2023Some things I drew at Drink and Draw Oxford the other night! Some of my characters from Monstrosity, my self-published comic series. I find myself itching to draw more of these guys' adventures. Keep your eyes peeled! 020
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 20/10/2023This just arrived! Let's-a-Go! (Not now, because I'm working, but I'll have a-go later) 020
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 10/10/2023A dude from my sketchbook! He might find his way into Monstrosity one day in the far future 🤣 020
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 09/10/2023Here's a couple of characters from my self-published comic 'Monstrosity'! It's been a while, but we've not seen the last of them! 040
Zak Simmonds-Hurn @monstrouscomics.bsky.social · 06/10/2023One from the sketchbook which I really liked! 010
