@carlquintanilla.bsky.social what Gregory Allen is missing is that Chinese Ai tokens are pennies on the dollars vs OPENai and Anthropic, so they’ll be a compression of these margins. The assumption is that the use of Chinese Ai would be used on tasks that are not considered a security risk.

Epic point missing, Tom. I am not arguing with history, nor am I arguing that voters in other areas of the country were intentionally voting for white supremacy. But you weren't there in the South, I lived among avowed white supremacists in 1980 and 84. They were dancing in the streets.

I lived in the South at the time, and the way that Reagan's campaign animated revanchist white supremacists was a big deal. I credit you that you manage a mild "he shouldn't have done it", but IMO you way underweight what Reagan's campaigns unleashed on us all.

Just finished “Code Dependent” by Madhumita Murgia. Really thought provoking book on #AI from a sociological/journalistic point of view. Just so many stories about how people’s lives were impacted by the construction or use of this technology but without them having agency over the impacts.

Altman moved the safety team under OpenAI’s research organization led by Chief Research Officer Mark Chen, and its security team will move to the “scaling” organization led by cofounder and president Greg Brockman.

Altman also said that the company would be renaming senior executive Fidji Simo’s product organization to “AGI Deployment,” a reference to artificial general intelligence, or AI that’s roughly on par with humans. Last week, the company told employees that it would create a desktop “superapp” by combining ChatGPT with its coding agent Codex and browser Atlas.

The changes come as the company competes with Anthropic for both customers and investor attention as both head toward expected blockbuster IPOs in the next year. Anthropic has been taking the business world by storm with its AI agents for coding and other white collar tasks, and Altman has publicly said OpenAI is racing to launch similar tools.
