Democratic control of Congress won’t be the only change on the Hill in January. We’re already seeing GOP candidates in Michigan, Iowa, and Florida distance themselves from an unpopular president to remain in office. I expect some other Republicans to feel emboldened to do the same.

Democrats will take back the House this fall, and maybe even the Senate due in part to a last-minute change in Maine. All they have to do is not screw up for the next two months. President Trump and his party are that unpopular.

The way Democrats will win back working-class, union voters in America’s heartland and flip the Senate is through a relentless focus on the economy. Nothing else comes close. (Yes, this was hours before the Knicks won the title.) #AlwaysKnicks

Bill Cassidy could have chosen to live in reality and recognize that he’d never win re-election and instead do the honorable things when they counted most. Instead he clung to delusion and ego, and single-handedly inflicted RFK Jr. upon us for a likely 3rd-place finish. I have no sympathy for him.

What worries me the most about the period we’re living through is the Trump administration’s weaponization of the Justice Department and the FBI. That’s hard to come back from once Americans become numb to it. It is utterly fatal to democracy.

Donald Trump is already the least popular President in modern history. So long as he is distracted from lowering the cost of living by his personal grievances, like what we saw in Indiana’s primaries last night, the more likely it is Democrats will take back the Senate.

Republicans started the congressional redistricting battle this cycle. They didn’t care about partisan gerrymandering back when I and my Democratic colleagues tried to ban it nationwide in Congress. Now that their plans have backfired, and they’re losing the fight, Republicans are crying foul.

President Trump is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota over the protests against ICE’s reign of terror. But the only insurrection we’ve seen is the one he caused on January 6, 2021. Trump’s policies are unpopular, and Americans will send a clear message this November.

A report by Amnesty International chronicles the human rights violations taking place at immigrant detention centers in Florida. This, and the cruel treatment of immigrants by the Trump Administration, are a reminder that Americans apparently didn’t feel they were signing up for this back in 2024.

This week, Republicans in Congress have been feigning outrage over a video of six Democrats simply reciting existing law, pretending it’s unfathomable the Trump Administration would ever issue illegal orders.

Some Republicans are issuing statements disagreeing with Trump’s weaponization of the government against Democrats who reminded servicemembers they don’t have to follow illegal orders. But will they hold hearings? Stop funding the President’s illegal activities? Stop confirming his nominees?

With the American people clearly on their side, Senate Democrats allowing Republicans to double and, in some instances, triple health insurance premiums for tens of millions of Americans is a hell of a choice.

Not to put any faith, whatsoever, in the independence of this far-right Supreme Court majority, but it’s hard not to read the skepticism of Barrett and Roberts in today’s oral argument over Trump’s clearly illegal tariffs outside the context of last night’s election results.

The impacts of the Trump Administration delaying SNAP benefits aren’t limited to food assistance. As the Texas Diaper Bank has noted, families that budgeted for SNAP are now having to shift funds they would have used on diapers to cover the cost of meals. This is devastating.

Donald Trump has been renovating the White House with marble and gold and throwing Great Gatsby-themed parties with billionaires, while millions of Americans are at risk of starvation because he needed two court orders to tell him to disburse food stamps. He doesn’t care about working people.

Donald Trump and the Republicans now wholly own any delay or denial of SNAP benefits. They were ordered to disburse those benefits by *2* federal judges. Whether/When they do so will solely determine if millions of Americans go hungry.

With two different judges ordering the Trump Administration to disburse SNAP benefits, Republicans can’t blame Democrats for millions of Americans going hungry during this government shutdown. It’s bad enough they voted to cut SNAP funding by $186 billion earlier this year.

Federal Reserve officials meet later this month to decide whether to cut interest rates and the Trump Administration is withholding a key labor report that will help them do their jobs. The administration is hiding data that will show how Trump’s tariffs are hurting job growth—and raising prices.

DOJ’s politically motivated investigations into George Soros and other perceived enemies of Donald Trump is the actual weaponization of government that Republicans lied about happening in the Biden era. Those lies were a pretext to destroy our democracy once Trump took office. I warned about this.

President Trump is bringing the U.S. economy closer and closer to a recession. In addition to raising prices for consumers, his tariffs have resulted in the lowest levels of job creation in years and caused companies to reduce their investments in the United States.

The Republican agenda of higher costs and taking away constitutional rights isn’t going so well. That’s why town halls are off the rails and Senators like Joni Ernst and Tom Tillis are not seeking reelection. It’s a shame the rest of America has to pay the price for their lack of integrity.

It’s only in America that we have an epidemic of mass shootings. And the discussion around these shootings is only political because Republicans in Congress and the White House oppose commonsense, lifesaving measures like an assault weapons ban and universal background checks.

The Trump Administration is obviously engaged in a cover-up of the Epstein files. The recent firing of federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, who put Ghislaine Maxwell behind bars, is likely part of that.

Last election, billions of dollars were spent to tell the lie that Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress would focus on lowering costs. Instead, they’re about to enact legislation that makes life less affordable for middle-class and low-income Americans. Democrats should keep talking about this.

Whether it’s Josh Hawley or Mike Lawler, you can’t listen to a word they say. Just watch how they vote. They’re voting to throw 17 million people off their health insurance, and to take food away from children, because they believe only rich people and corporations deserve government assistance.
