Flyer reads: PEOPLE POWERED POLICY:

The article mentions the hobby horse I’m on. Getting an autistic child into a school in which they are comfortable should be *top priority*. Autistic children miss far more school than non-autistic kids due to many factors. It’s unacceptable—but typical—that the district didn’t act on this.

Director Emerick wrote a Facebook post that I encourage you to read. This really is the experience of disabled kids at MPS right now—and the experience of their invisibility to far too many. It does usually seem to be that no one who hasn’t experienced this cares.
Joyner Emerick

People do realize that students with disabilities, including chronic trauma that manifests as observable/ externalized behavior, change "placements" all the time, right?

From public to specialized charter, from federal setting Ill to IV and back, from district to district, on administrative transfer, on IEP team decision, in and out of residential treatment facilities, in and out of carceral facilities, because of push-out, because of bullying, because of neglect/abuse at school, because of LEA legal non-compliance, because of physical space/facilities access, because of programmatic or staff availability.

Students with disabilities absorb frequent changes to where they go to school because of the failures of our systems of education to serve them, teach them, keep them safe. In many cases, these placement changes actually represent a district breaking federal law, but families don't have the resources to fight back.

In almost four years on the school board I've gotten ZERO constituent emails expressing concern about how the leadership decisions that create that reality impact the friendships of students with disabilities, their sense of place and well-being, their educational trajectory, or their family capacity.

Try it with abled kids, though, and it's a very different story.
There is NOTHING inherent to children with disabilities that makes them better able to handle these changes, which are nearly never based on the preference or convenience of the family, but instead based on acute daily safety considerations or forced on families by administrative process.
Why will we fight to protect "stability of placement" for abled kids but say nothing about the continuous placement destabilization for kids with disabilities?

And Amy Klobuchar was Hennepin County Attorney at the time. Her office prosecuted Haynes on evidence the office later acknowledged should have made prosecutors hesitant to bring charges at all. Really wish Amy would meaningfully acknowledge and address this.

My point about needing to see more about Her and Henry's sexual harassment lawsuit is that we've only seen 1. photos she sent and 2. Henry's claims. But we don't know the larger context around them yet. Henry is the authoritative narrator here. But there are real reasons we need to see more:

One of the missing pieces from the Kaohly Her coverage are voices/lenses of Hmong women. There's this. But not much else. It's easier for white people to draw a line around what is "inappropriate" behavior, without interrogating the ways women, especially women of color, have to shape shift.

Is local media not picking up on this story--with the MPD documents right there in it--because it would poke holes in their own coverage of the Jan. 9th "clearing" operation? Or is it bc of their institutional relationships with MPD? Something else? I have some thoughts on this this below:

At some there'll be a morph meme of Klobuchar and Demuth becoming increasingly indistinguishable and melting into one woman in a purple jacket. And then someone in the DFL will turn that morph meme into an "own," where it's Amy Klobuchar in that purple jacket, but with a Prince "victory" guitar.

MPD records reveal a coordinated system of drones, city cameras, command-post intelligence, body-worn and helmet cameras, person and vehicle checks, and evidence preservation around the memorial site — part of an operation that generated $1.92 million in overtime in just four days. At least 101 MPD personnel were assigned to the memorial deployment, where records identified only seven people holding vigil.

I wonder how often my neighbors w/cameras witness me "fight muttering" to myself outside. Sometimes I'm just "talking" to higher-ups at the Strib. Sometimes it's a CEO of a real estate company. "No, YOU should be ashamed...," they hear me whisper, and wonder why I'm mad at my trash can.

This Strib story is grotesque. It doesn't just impose their familiar landlord/property-management frame here; it reorganizes the hierarchy of harm around it. A shooting rooted in domestic violence is transformed into a "Real Estate" story about the “dangers” facing landlords and property managers.

Three observations about the State Fair this year: 1. SO many cops. Especially posturing bulked-up good ol’ boy cops. In cowboy hats. 2. Way more garbage novelty booths, especially in the “North Woods” section that generally offered a reprieve and some open space. 3. More aggro bros in general.
