The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii. @noaa.gov had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

Good time to remind people what a journalist is/isn't. A journalist: - has to do reporting of some kind (data, archival, source-based) - has to fact-check that reporting - is held to a higher legal standard than op-eds, essayists, commentators (generally can't share an opinion w/o documentation)

Alberta used to get the majority of its electricity from coal. Today, only two dedicated coal plants remain. And hourly data shows the grid got ZERO power from those plants for about half the day on Feb. 2, 2024. That's gotta be the first coal-free period for the province in decades, I imagine?
