Got this very inexpensive chinese synth over the summer, and yesterday updated it with some 3rd party firmware (undoubtedly AI vibe coded, I know, awful). Now it's a cute little DAW for under $100. Personally I write music and program it the old fashioned way so don't hate me for this.

I have accidentally kicked the cat when we're going opposite directions in the hallway so many times at this point that she lets out a loud MRRP every time she runs past me now, like a passing ship blasting its foghorn

the movie was Annihilation and AJ pulled up screenshots from the movie on their phone just now and went "...he literally just looks like himself"

I said out loud "the main theme of Annihilation 2018 is 'what if the military could cure cancer with grenades'" thinking I was being uncharitably hyperbolic as a joke and then that was beat for beat how the ending went

mildly faceblind4faceblind movie night. 4th or 5th time the husband was onscreen I said "is that Oscar Isaac?" and got "what? god no. The guy from Dune? They couldn't make him look this busted." and I spent the entire movie feeling silly for having thought that till credits rolled. Lo and behold,

According to MIT News, Margaret Hamilton died at the age of 90. "A profoundly influential computer scientist best known for leading the software engineering team at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab during NASA’s Apollo program". This famous photo 🔽 inspired the For All Mankind character Margo Madison.

The Time Traveler's Almanac (sci-fi short story compilation) and Inventing the Renaissance (history by Ada Palmer). Their covers are the exact same color with black and white text, both massive 2 inch thick paperbacks

I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.
A drab pop art painting of a sinister man driving a car, watching a stoic blonde in leopard print fur. The proportions of the guy's face are offThe original image, from Girls' Romances 78 by Tony Abruzzo. The guy has a more sinister leer, while the woman has heavier mascara and feels both sadder and more determined. A caption reads "I vowed to myself I would NOT miss my appointment -- that I would NOT go riding with him--yet before I knew it..."

#x&y Apollo 18 if I'm mission control, and *you're* mission control...
Amber: if we need moon rocks, why not steal them from the Smithsonian? It'd be cheaper.
X: and disrespect a national museum??
Y: and miss my chance to go the the MOON??
X: When did we decide that you're going to the moon? I was thinking I'd get to go to the moon.
Amber: Boys, boys, boys. You're forgetting a simple solution to this petty argument. You boys stay home and I'LL get to go to the moon.
X&Y, overlapping: like hell you will

four panel comic edit of the well known mysillycomics comic "a true conversationalist"
panel 1: a chill looking person looks down on simplified cartoon versions of John Linnell and John Flansburgh from They Might Be Giants. they are saying, "hey [they might be giants (jackelope logotype)] hows it goin?"
panel 2: close on John and John, with lyrics from "Let's Fall In Lava":
[Verse 2]
We never talk, we don’t have to talk
One look as much as tells us everything
We chickened out in the past so many times
That barrel over Niagara Falls, for instance
We changed our minds but deep down we knеw
One day we would fall, it was inevitablе
Panel 3: the chill person stands, taking it in for a second, smiling and calm
Panel 4: just like panel three but their mouth is open and they are saying "yea"

in my talk today, as an example of the strange things you can do in comics given their sequential but also spatial/simultaneous nature, I included this gonzo panel from 1950s Batman, which I just love in all its weirdness! Yes, I have more intentionally clever examples, but something about this...
part of a page from a batman comic. In one panel, batman leaps from off panel onto a diving board, the motion lines of his rebound travel across to another panel, where we see him finish his leap and crash into the crooks to save the day
