@mmburton.bsky.social is correct that there is much opportunity for redevelopment, but not every building works. We must really get behind infill & redevelopment in our climate & housing crisis. Parking lots and empty lots don't support the city. We can fix it ☺️ www.saltwire.com/newfoundland...

My daughter Edith turns 4 today. I’m thinking back to her birth during the pandemic and the amazing care of Dr. Kelly Monaghan and nurse Bev at the Health Sciences that allowed me to have a natural birth and avoid a section when she was, as all my babies were, sunny side up and stuck in my pelvis.

DYK in St. John’s we improved more than 12 crosswalks in 2024? Improvements include accessible curb ramps, curb extensions, rapid flashing beacons, signage, and sight line improvements. Staff are still working on the 2025 list but should be on the same scale.

Preparing a set of poems to read tomorrow night and they’re all based on poorly-understood concepts borrowed from math and physics. Can’t wait to explain how the Koch snowflake is like my marriage.
I saw love there in the corner of our room

This might seem inconceivable
like a Koch snowflake in summertime
but my love is iterative and can be seen
with naive intuition alone. I saw love

there in the front seat of my October car
(engine dead, we boosted, remember?)
the first time I told you: I feel fractional
when you are not around.

After a decade we joined: an isotope
made of gold and promise, too simple to be
two-dimensional, though rectifiable—we
designed it. We mixed our physical properties,

crystallized and separated, on either side
of the flask. I saw love there in the corner
of our room, swinging, shapeless, energy roaming
from baseboard to ceiling, trickling up

the sheetrock walls like snow
damping the fragile planes
until they strike out the
dimensions of the
bedroom we call
home.
