*especially when it’s considered ‘oversharing’ to answer a question you were asked. Which is why I hate the ‘how are you really?’ variant of small talk from people I like or am slightly friendly with. I want to take it at face value but I know they may not want me to answer thoughtfully.

I think safety is an important word in the context of small talk and neurodivergence. Masking in order to perform small talk, the anxiety of being found out as someone who can’t, or the disabling rsd and shame when you overshare* - all make you feel unsafe as a neurodivergent person.

Yep. The dichotomy is dismissive of nuance and diversity within neurodivergence. It perpetuates the idea of a deficit - a problem to be solved. Makes it easier to dismiss ND folks’ abilities and their self advocacy on one hand, and ignore actual struggles and support requirements on the other.

The science on this is well established. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder with a strong genetic component. The social model of disability is crucial in framing neurodivergence. Wish we got a doc on that instead.

Yeah. It’s a student protest and a people’s movement now. I’m way more comfortable extending support and solidarity to that, than to the CJP. I don’t think it matters as much now whether their unpreparedness and sketchy judgement is by design or by default. The protest itself has eclipsed them.

This. An election now, wouldn’t go any differently. The voting majority is more concerned with drowning themselves in Hindu-Muslim than asking for accountability. But a lot of ‘apolitical’ folks were radicalized today. If thats directed towards elections, eventually it could count for something.

I’ve been thinking about this and the points at which it becomes impossible to mask. Meltdowns after school or a big social thing, as a kid. And the parallels to when you’re approaching perimenopause and your coping strategies fall by the wayside and everything is completely dysregulated again.

More than a person, Jessica is a state of mind. To play Jessica, you need self -confidence, a sense of humor, and a Jessican -attitude-.
