Do you remember Francesca Gino's claim on her website that HBS analyzed the "wrong data file" in their investigation, and that a "real file" proved her innocence? HBS is now claiming that the "real file" was fabricated by Gino... and thus that Gino's claim was defamatory.

Institutional rules promote cooperation by strengthening personal and social norms, which in turn sustains contributions over time. In contrast, in the absence of a rule, norms are weaker and contributions decline steadily over time. (5/n)

Surprisingly, we find no evidence that biased audits erode norms, reduce cooperation, or diminish compliance. (4/n)

We find that: Rules work: Simply having a rule reduces free-riding and increases cooperation. Adding enforcement leads to exact rule-following and less free-riding — but also crowds out full, voluntary cooperation. (3/n)

We test this in an experiment varying the existence of a rule governing public good contributions & whether enforcement of the rule is biased against some players. (2/n)

🚨 Big SCOOP 🚨 Tax revenue could fall by as much as **10%** this year, per sources, as taxpayers and businesses see the Trump admin as less likely to challenge tax cheats. That'd be **$500 BILLION** in lost revenue. It'd nearly double the tax gap in a single year.

The Taxpayer Advocate Service, which operates as an internal watchdog, would see deeper workforce reductions than the agency overall.

We also analyzed how likely sellers were to agree to a sale and found that offers above the reference price (green) were consistently more likely to be accepted than those below it (red). 4/

And that’s exactly what we found. The left side shows that overall, bargaining & acceptance look similar. But the right side reveals a pattern: most bargaining happens when offers fall below the market price (the loss domain), while accepted offers often cluster just above it (the gain domain). 3/

On the show, sellers receive an expert appraisal of their item’s market value before auctioning it to a group of 5 buyers. Our key idea: sellers treat the expert’s estimate as a reference point. Offers below this price feel like a loss, while offers above it feel like a gain. 2/
