And that's what many governments have been avoiding for years as they collaborate with platforms and AI companies on more projects. And of course data/media literacy programs cost a lot of money. So the easy way out is to punish kids&teens. It won't work and put them at risk because no guidance.

Kids and teenagers will find ways to byass the social media ban the UK gov is putting into force today. When you make something forbidden it makes it more appealing to people. The answer is more restrictions on platforms & education, but of course these require governments to be tough on platforms->

Sobering stuff from David Blunkett in the @financialtimes.com
Fragmentation divides rather than unites; grievance politics emphasises our differences, exaggerates what separates us rather than what we hold in common and leads to a brutal environment. If you don’t believe me then read the words emailed to me by a South Yorkshire Labour councillor, who just lost their seat.

“It was beyond difficult on the doorstep during the past four months. I have never had so much hate thrown at me. Not anger, pure hate and vitriol . . . The flags were weaponised, neighbour feared neighbour . . . I was screamed at, sworn at, accused of supporting paedophiles, circled by off-road bikers, threats of urination when I leafleted. It was like this on a daily basis.”

If you’re not shocked, you should be. This is the reality of politics in 2026.
