Under the Bribery Act, I believe agreeing to accept a bribe is treated as the same criminal offence regardless of whether the money is actually received. Is that also true of foreign funding of political parties?

This is terrific. Lots of enjoyable books about journalism, but I’d also add Selling Hitler by Robert Harris, which is jaw dropping about the ST buying the (fake) Hitler Diaries and Andrew Marr’s very affectionate My Trade, which is a great collection of stories about hacks.

£6.3bn really is a huge gap for unis to fill on research each year It's sometimes said that's what QR is for, but QR is part of the calculation: without it the gap would be close to £9bn The biggest way that gap is filled is international student fees (yellow bar), but we all know how that's going

Times Radio was leading on this garbled nonsense. The media keeps finding ways (inc nonsense) to report "immigration still rising" yet serious outlets show little/no interest in the actual news. (Immigration has fallen fast & will fall further in 2026-27 than almost anybody realises or recognises)

I wonder how much reflection will be taking place in the BBC about the Makerfield Question Time special. The decision to exclude Restore - the party that finished third - was supported by Ofcom. But I’d be surprised if a similar situation happened again that would be a sustainable position
