Caught 10 minutes of a history doc on Channel 5 and they are using AI for historical scenes (ships sailing and queen liz 1 addressing troops etc…) they put ‘AI Generated’ as a caveat on screen but it just completely turned me off. Might write a strongly worded email (without the help of AI)

Love this extract from the Bomber Command files re: mine-laying that in March of ‘43 an idea was proposed to accompany mine laying with heavy bombers carrying a conventional load. The response tickles me. You can smell the sarcasm oozing out of it. I particularly like the last sentence.

Had a great trip to the Battle of Britain Bunker today. Came away with a replica plotting block which I’ve combined with one of my air recognition cards. Now I need one for friendly forces to go with the Hurricane I’ve built. Suddenly I’ve an urge to see a particular film….. 🎥 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔

The 2011 laptop has finally given up. It’s done well since its systems are so out of date, it’s full of sand and sounds like an old washing machine on an aggressive cycle. Went to the local computer shop most people pass on the way to Currys and they were super helpful. New laptop purchased.

The postman dropped this in. Not a change of interest but looking at the troops who liberated the area in which my Uncle was hiding. Looking to get hold of the war diaries. I gather also the 113th Cavalry were providing a recce screen. Keen to get into some detail of what elements were where.

With my nose in Bombing Development Unit papers over the weekend. One thing that stood out was the flipside to H2S. That losses for aircraft with HS2 outstripped losses of aircraft without for a time. Theories around the signals being detectable or simply that HS2 fitted…

I’m full of enthusiasm for research again. I’ve had an awful couple of months laid up. Some hospital time where I’ve really not felt myself. Having to postpone my talk at the IBCC was pretty heartbreaking and I’m not out of the woods but I can see the edge and have a map so all good.

One of the frustrating hurdles I am faced in my research into Steve’s career is the loss of his log book. To have it would surely put to rest a lot of my questions and would also likely have supported him in writing his 2003 account. As this document explains it was in his kitbag…..
