I’m writing about the final withdrawal of Burma Army back into India for my new book for Osprey & chanced looking on Google Earth for any sign of the abandoned tanks in the jungles near Shwegyin. What was really nice was we were passing near the grave of my own Great-Great Uncle Denis Crotty, and we had time to pop by. Today marks the 110 anniversary of when he first went into action with the 18 Division at Trones Wood, and it has reminded me of that surprisingly emotional moment… 2/3 🧵

A few weeks ago I went on my annual school Battlefield tour with the brilliant Zeitgeist Tours. We visited several students’ relative’s graves and they also laid a wreath at the Menin Gate in honour of their relatives. We often do this, but they are usually the most special part of the trip. 1/3 🧵
