Anyone do Maths intervention forms? Next year we will have three Y11 forms that are “Maths forms”. We will have 3 x 20 minutes for Maths per week for the whole year (same kids). Looking for inspiration/ see what’s worked for others. What do/ would you do?

New blog post about my method of doing addition and multiplication using the geometry of parallel lines. It's called "Home & Away: Gometric Arithmetic". davidkbutler.xyz/2026/04/10/h...
A photo of a piece of paper with a diagram being drawn.
A grey horizontal line is labelled "number line" and has points marked 0,1, a and b.
A red line goes across the top left of the page and is labelled "away".
A blue line goes acrosds the top right of the page and is labelled "home".
A red line parallel to the away line goes up from 1, and meets a blue line parallel to the home line that goes down to a.
A green line goes from 0 through the point where red turned to blue and continues upwards. It's labelled "turn line".
One hand holds a ruler in place through the point marked b parallel to the "away" line, while the other hand holds a red marker and draws a line along the ruler to finish on the green line marked "turn line".

I’ve been asked about the suitability of GCSE Statistics as an early entry option. Anyone had any experience of doing this? #mathstoday

It's that time of year again - your annual reminder that if you're a Maths teacher and looking for suitable resources for your classes across KS3 to KS5 then do check out www.draustinmaths.com. The site is five years old this week 🎉🎉 and in that time it's amassed over 1000 resources! 1/3

Calling all Maths teachers! What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths? Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks... ... or just ones you really like. (see some of mine below)

Light bulb moment when looking at OATMaths resouces on solving simultaneous equations by elimination - using zero pairs/identical pairs to decide if you add or subtract - makes so much sense! Used that language with Y10 & they picked it up so quickly. Thanks @jemmaths.bsky.social & team #mathstoday

Inspired by @draustinmaths.com chapter in "If I could tell you another thing" and have had a go at creating my own prerequiste knowledge check for simultaneous equations (foundation tier) would be interested in any feedback/tweaks before using it with students next week
5 questions to test prerequiste knoweldge needed for simultaneous equations. Question 1 asks students to identify the correct first step in solving an equation. Question 2 asks students to identify the mistake made in solving an equation and then solve it correctly. Question 3 asks students to solve 2 step equations. Question 4 asks students to collect like terms. Question 5 asks students to substitute values of x into a an expression to find the value of y

The latest TikTok predicted paper scam is a made up "5 year rule". I've found out these companies are making tens of thousands of pounds by lying to students about their "predictive methods". Make sure your students are clued up: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blao...

I have done an OAT Maths curriculum update in a while, what with not really going to the other place much. We’re getting close to finishing the five years now. Just released GM8 Surface Area and Volume and a gorgeous unit* on quadratic graphs and equations (A12). *Yes, I mean gorgeous.
