I sold one (1) mug at a market today. Anyway, here's the raku vase I finished yesterday.
A bottle with a flared base tinged blue-green from oxidized copper, a black-then-white swoop of bare clay on walls sloping in towards the neck, and then glossy white crackle glaze. The cracks have only blacked in very specific places – a circle near the base, along the shoulder, and around the rim.

I mean, flex items optionally wrap onto lines. It's technically not nothing. But it's the robust internal layout structure that makes grid powerful, and "2d" in more ways than just columns & rows, and possible to define in one place. While flex items have to work it out amongst themselves.
160
Mia [data-css=poetic] @miriam.codes · 24/09/2026
Both result in items laid out on a page. But a grid is an actual structure between the parent & siblings. Elements don't relate to each other, they relate through the grid. Flex items, like floats, are more just sloshing around in there. No internal layout structure to push off of, just elements.

Mia [data-css=poetic] @miriam.codes · 23/09/2026
There is no layout in a flexbox layout. Grid layout is the only layout that has an actual layout. (Repeat that as you fall asleep, I guess.)

Way too many people out here happy to "set aside the ethical considerations" indefinitely forever. Just don't worry about it, focus on new efficiencies. Gotta move even faster, if we want to break all these things.

...Assumption #4 has been driving me batshit, yet no one seems to realize it: if you're worried trans ppl might potentially harm your Dem candidate's chances, then YOUR CANDIDATE MADE A BAD DECISION! so why not join us in trying to get them to reverse position? juliaserano.medium.com/on-democrats...
screenshot from linked-to essay that reads:
Assumption #4: The elephant in the room that no one is talking about
There is a striking disconnect between Talarico, Turek, et al. — who have clearly made a political calculation that abandoning trans rights will help them more than it will hurt them in this election — and the many cisgender liberals I’ve encountered online who are absolutely freaking out over the possibility that trans people’s critiques and protests will ultimately tank said candidates.
Both of these things cannot simultaneously be true!
If you think your favorite candidate enacted the correct political strategy, then there is no reason to berate trans people for protesting it, as those protests should already be baked into your candidate’s calculations. So why are you berating trans people then? (Unless, of course, you enjoy berating trans people just for the sake of it.)
Alternatively, if you think trans people *are* capable of tanking your favorite candidate via our criticisms and protests, doesn’t that imply that your candidate (and their consultants and strategists) totally fucked up in their political calculations here? And if they did fuck up, shouldn’t you be reaching out and complaining to *them* (rather than berating trans people), in the hope that they might reverse their bad decision?

I've enjoyed re-visiting "we created life & it killed us" fiction, asking "what if it's hype"? For the most part, the stories still work. Skynet could use a basic decision tree & still launch the nukes. But Dr. Frankenstein becomes an excellent unreliable narrator. Maybe he's lying the whole time?

One of the most annoying things since we started styling stuff is when you declare equal padding on the top and bottom of a button or other single-liner, and the spacing isn't equal. Finally, we have a solution with text-box-trim and text-box edge, which are now available in all browser engines!

This is a clear result of the cascade resolving (shadow) context before considering element attachment – but I had never tested it before. Interesting. You don't need importance to override inline styles. You can (let's say "just") use a parent context instead! codepen.io/editor/miria... #CSS
