I sold one (1) mug at a market today. Anyway, here's the raku vase I finished yesterday.

A bottle with a flared base tinged blue-green from oxidized copper, a black-then-white swoop of bare clay on walls sloping in towards the neck, and then glossy white crackle glaze. The cracks have only blacked in very specific places – a circle near the base, along the shoulder, and around the rim.

Planning some yeti-lid-friendly tumblers, but I need to get the dimensions precise. These sauce bowls are trimmed to 1/16th-inch steps, to test shrinkage for this clay & glaze. Looks like I'll be aiming for 3 7/16" inside diameter after trimming. 😅 (3 10/16" ID wet)

The best photo spot in our house requires a step stool, but I think the results are pretty good.

working out a new form on the left, for a friend who requested a travel mug. goal is that it fits a commercially available lid. and letting a porcelain light jar dry inverted on the right.

seven angular pieces staggered in two rows across a ware board. first is short and squat, then one with a cup holder narrow base, a dramatic flare out in the middle, and a gentle angle into the rim. next has a similar base/flare but then bends in and back out to the rim. third is a straight angle from narrow base to wide lip, then an inverted version of the narrow/flared/angled form but with a more gentle thrust out. finally an inverted jar, narrower at the base and angling out to a wide high shoulder, then back to an inset rim. next to it, a lid.

Prototype jar of light. It has some issues to work out with the mounting and wiring, but I'm happy with the proof of concept. Maybe at some point, a wireless version.

Some large noodle bowls that came out over the holidays. #pottery One has a slight glaze blemish, but otherwise I'm happy with them. Using Rocky Mountain BMX clay.

Four nested large soup or noodle bowls, with notches in the rim for holding chopsticks. The bowls are wide and round with a small foot and deep rings of texture from the base up to a wide smooth outset rim. The glaze is a deep red brown that pools to blue in the grooves, with a galactic white and blue textured drip from the rim.

Those four round bowls beside three angular conic bowls with deep foot rings and the same texture/glaze on angular sides up to a wide rim with similar notches.

Very happy with the concept, but had some serious glaze issues… like it just totally filled in the holes. lol, oops. I'll try again. Porcelain with clear glaze and a cobalt wash. We all agree which is for salt vs pepper, right? #pottery

The left form angles out from the base about a centimeter then angles in slowly for several inches to a flat top with five holes. There's a spray of blue wash from the base up the bright white form. The right form is the exact inverse, a wide angled top, sloping gently to the base - the blue splatter coming from above. It also has five holes.

low angle of a large cup in black clay, still leathery, with a short foot ring, rounded wide base, and then sharp angle in to a narrower lip. the teacup gorilla word mark is hand carved one word in slab serif caps above the other in a cursive script. The teacup e is lowercase and rotated slightly forward. The cup handle is a small ring sticking out the side.

One of the porcelain pieces that came out recently - a vase shape I've had in mind for a while. Might revisit this at some different sizes.

A shiny white vase with splatters of blues and greens that seem to drip from the base upward. It has a narrow foot, and slightly rounded walls out to a wider shoulder – then cuts in sharply, out again to the same width, and back in – almost like a collapsible accordion at the top

Working on some nerd dice trays for nerd friends who play nerd games with me. Here's two of three, thrown then altered. One is drying ready to be fired, the others still need trimming - which I do using an overturned bucket as a chuck (or chum if yer fancy).

round tray with straight walls up a couple inches, then a rim that spays out horizontal, dipping in places to provide a dice rest - and ending in curled over torn edges like ripped paper or live edge wood - in the middle i carved do trans be crime in a playful handdrawn slab serif. white clay, bone dry.

v60-style inverted cone with a slab base sitting on top of a ceramic mug. The pour-over is made from a brown clay, with frosty white glaze that shows the clay at edges – and where a texture has been carved into the walls of the piece. The mug is black clay using the same white glaze around the rim, and the same carved texture at the base.

The same pour-over from above, showing the inside of the conic filter holder, which also has some texture. The hole at the base of the cone is about .75 inches diameter.

The bottom of the pour-over has an outer ledge and inset ring to help keep the entire thing in place, and the coffee flowing into the mug. There's a small stamp of my initial on the outside ring.

felt sad, so i trimmed some gaiwan lids and glazed a whole set of espresso/sake cups. maybe I should be sad again tomorrow and throw some things. Here's some bowls that came out recently for my brothers:

A tall stack of 6 ramen bowls on the left, each with black clay exposed on the outside, a deep angular foot ring and carved texture - then an organic white/brown glaze with blue specks around the notched rim and inside. the stack is aesthetically off-kilter, and the top bowl has chopsticks laid across two notches in the rim. on the right, just two bowls of the same design, stacked a you can see more of the glazed inside.

Feeling pretty good about my first big pottery barter, enough to cover several haircuts and a full color with my favorite hairdresser. Including some butter bells, which I really enjoyed making. I'm excited to finess this design some more. I have ideas, so I hope people like butter.

from the outside, a mid-size lidded jar with slightly inward-angled walls and a flat disc lid, in dark clay and light shino organic-beige glaze. the top of the lid is unglazed.

the lid removed reveals a butter bell inside, an inverted cup that nests inside the jar, with the bottom of the lid as the bottom of the cup. the insides of both the bell and jar are glazed white.
