After a woman obtained public records indicating a Google datacenter would cover only one-third of the cost of a new solar plant to power the facility — contradicting its promises that ratepayers would not be on the hook — her electricity company sued her.

An Arkansas Mom Obtained Public Records About a New Data Center. Then She Got Sued.
Cases in Arkansas and California show how desperately we need a federal law against lawsuits intended to chill free speech.

Ms Rachel from the top ropes
From Ms Rachel's account on Threads, she writes, "CORECIVIC, a company that makes hundreds of millions locking up KIDS in immigration detention
has a PAC that's sending campaign checks to Senator Susan Collins of Maine.
Susan Collins chairs the Senate committee that writes ICE's budget.
ICE is CoreCivic's customer.
The company gets paid out of a budget she controls, and it pays into her campaign."

Farm workers are being hunted down and the public is at risk. Representatives elected by Californians need to represent Californians. Our members are the backbone of the CA-22 district, where they have jobs and homes and families. Farm workers belong here. ICE agents and David Valadao do not.

Do we really need to explain to people that it is really, REALLY important to read to young children? Like, you, personally, need to read to your child - your voice, your face, your hand gestures, your lap, your arms, your closeness. What kind of parent doesn't know this in their bones?

Which goes way beyond the individual company but to how games get published and funded and who gets to profit from them. It’s not usually the studio who makes it! Really feel like this should be better understood by everyone esp since most successful indie studios have been bought and shuttered.

Julie Davis @miraphoto.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Also if people want to continue to have games to play esp good games like psychonauta you NEED these studios to stay alive- it’s a miracle it still exists and making games is messy and emotional and by nature often *requires* crunch periods and that should be baked into it’s structure and benefits

Julie Davis @miraphoto.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I could write an entire dissertation on why the current way studios are organized is only working against them in terms of dynamics and also man month costs but game devs would just argue about it for eternity because this is what game devs do like have you ever met them

You can see how the members of a band forming a union that excluded the lead singer and made with he wasn’t allowed totally to talk to them about the tour anymore would pit them against each other & not be conducive to creating music as a group. Game dev teams like this are a band not a factory.

Julie Davis @miraphoto.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
This is a perfect illustration of typical organizational dynamics at indie game studios & consequently a perfect illustration of why company specific unions in games is silly & industry-wide, job-specific unions (à la IATSE etc) are the only path. Assuming the industry continues to exist anyway.

You can now read Carlos Vargas Moreno's story at The Guardian. Carlos was an H-2A worker who experienced a debilitating heat stroke in 2022 after being subjected to unsafe work conditions by his employer, Florida Orange Gold. Two years prior, another Florida Orange Gold worker died of heat stroke.

Heatstroke ruined his health. Years before, it took the life of another farm worker at the same company
A farm labor contractor exposed laborers on H-2A agricultural visas to heat-related health hazards, but the contractor is still bringing hundreds of migrant farm workers to North Carolina

This is the best overview I've read about the plague. Also, it brings up the thing to actually be scared of if you're in the US: measles. We're up to 1000 cases in Pennsylvania. If you've never been vaccinated, do it. If you have, check if you should get a booster. Protect yourself and others.
