2024 currently has more known games industry layoffs than 2023+2022 combined. 2024 is roughly 600 layoffs away from doubling 2023. There is still plenty of business days left in the month. I can't emphasize enough how extreme these last few years have been. So far.

Statement to Unity on behalf of Dreamfeel.

Text says: Unity,
Over the last two days I have seen hundreds of developers and teams start their move away from Unity. It's utterly unprecedented in any industry. Dreamfeel will be among them soon. While this is a hassle for us, unlike many, we will ultimately be fine. There are plenty of other middleware tools we can use to create video games.
However, I'd like to explain why Unity will not survive if it follows this trajectory. It is clear that your most lucrative customers are the largest GaaS developers. What is also clear is that you do not understand these developers will not exist without everyone else. Not unlike "whales” in a F2P game who benefit from a thriving game full of non-paying customers, these valuable mobile developers thrive because of a much bigger ecosystem that you have almost instantly killed this week.

game devs see the power game design educators have when teaching tools. I’ve been in many conversations about tools, and Unity has been hanging by a thread these past few years. Academics aren’t bound as tightly by market forces, and the good ones view exploitation of our students with disdain
